On September 12, Justice Minister Rutthapol Nao-warat outlined the ministry's seven-point policy framework during a television interview on NBT2HD, responding to Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul's earlier statement that delayed justice is injustice. The seven core policies are: implementing royal projects effectively; combating all forms of crime; addressing drug problems; protecting citizens' rights and providing legal assistance; developing laws and justice systems; rehabilitating offenders for social reintegration; and administering justice professionally. All policies have defined timelines and the ministry has directed all departments to implement them.
Regarding the saying that prisons hold the poor, Rutthapol said this was outdated language. He noted the Justice Ministry now operates justice funds, community justice centers in every province, legal consultation services, and hotlines for public assistance. The justice fund specifically helps impoverished citizens denied fair treatment, with a committee reviewing each case for eligibility. Support covers bail and attorney fees, though not all cases qualify.
On drug control, the Narcotics Control Board operates under the Justice Ministry's oversight, coordinating with police and military. The approach spans prevention, suppression, treatment, rehabilitation, and monitoring. Enforcement targets major traffickers and precursor chemicals, with operations seizing enough ingredients to prevent production of over one million methamphetamine tablets.
For online scams, money laundering, and transnational crime, multiple agencies coordinate efforts through the Special Cases Investigative Division. Online crime increasingly uses corporate accounts rather than personal ones, complicating tracking. Recent operations in Pattaya, Chon Buri targeted a major Israeli network, with evidence gathering complete and operations planned this month. The DSI applies threshold criteria for accepting special crime cases based on damage value.
