Lawmaker Flags Massive Overpricing in Police Range Upgrade

On September 10, 2025, parliament's House of Representatives convened to consider the 2026 fiscal-year budget bill worth 3.78 trillion baht. Purivvardh Jaisamran, a Bangkok member of parliament from the Thai Citizens Party, questioned budget allocations for the Police Aviation Division's 50 million baht water drainage improvement project, which included various upgrades. Upon reviewing the project details, he found the bullet-resistant rubber sheet panels were priced at 12,300 baht per 50 x 50 centimetre sheet—with 800 sheets requested for a total of 9.84 million baht—nearly 10 times higher than the global market price of 1,300 baht per sheet. The project also requested 75.8 million baht for a shooting range renovation, with 48.27 million allocated for construction. Purivvardh noted additional irregularities: wiring work was overpriced at 1.48 million baht when private contractors estimated it at 600,000 baht; computer server software for closed-circuit cameras was quoted at 2 million baht when comparable systems cost only 450,000 baht; and a target-hanging system was listed at 14.4 million baht without clear specifications. He also flagged bullet-resistant steel panels priced at 25,000 baht per square metre as extraordinarily expensive if using standard steel rather than imported military-grade material. Purivvardh argued that while the civil works components appeared reasonable, the equipment costs were excessive and recommended the entire project be cut from the budget and reconsidered next year.
