Man Arrested for Killing Uncle with Hammer in Phayao

Police in Pong district, Phayao province, arrested Prasanmit, 23, on September 7, 2025, after villagers discovered the body of his uncle, 47, on September 6 along a roadside in the area. According to his confession, Prasanmit had argued with his uncle on the evening of September 3 over money and was criticized about his work, which provoked him to grab a hammer and strike his uncle in the head and ears while the victim sat in a hammock beneath the house, causing him to die.
Prasanmit then placed the body in the bed of his father's pickup truck to dispose of it. However, when the vehicle reached an uphill section near a health station, the engine died and would not restart. Unable to continue, he carried the corpse and left it in the roadside grass, then backed the truck away approximately 100 meters before walking home. Residents later found the body, and police arrested him at his residence.
Detectives from Phayao Provincial Police collected evidence including blood traces from the truck bed and hammer, which were sent for forensic analysis. Prasanmit was taken to the scene to reconstruct events and provide a detailed confession. He faces charges of murder and concealment, removal, or destruction of a corpse to conceal death or its cause. Prasanmit has prior arrests for firearms and drug-related offenses.
