A 24-year-old department store employee reported being attacked by an armed gang that burst into his hotel room after he arranged a Facebook date. At 3:16 p.m. on July 17, 2025, Veersak (surname withheld) arrived at a news office with visible injuries to his face, head, arms, and legs, claiming he had been assaulted at gunpoint inside his room. According to his account, he had messaged a woman on Facebook late into the evening of July 16 and invited her to his room. The woman agreed and sent flirtatious messages before arriving with a female friend, who left after a short time. Moments later, 4-5 men forced their way in, with one pointing a gun at his head while others beat him with wooden clubs and steel rods. Veersak said he managed to grab a knife and fight back, causing the attackers to retreat to a pickup truck parked nearby and flee. After filing a report, someone approached him claiming to know the assailants and offered to settle the matter by providing compensation if he would withdraw his complaint. Veersak refused, stating the attack occurred in his room late at night and that negotiating under such circumstances offered no fairness. He claimed the attackers and the woman he had contacted were affiliated with police conducting an undercover drug operation, but noted that if they were legitimate officers, they should have identified themselves rather than forcing their way in and attacking him. Veersak insisted he has no involvement with drugs and welcomed verification. He appealed to the National Police Office and the attackers' superiors to turn themselves in and face the law, reaffirming his intention to pursue the case to its fullest extent after filing a complaint with Nong Prueao Police Station.

Myanmarese compactor operator Zaw Wan stated that while driving on a steep approach to the house, the vehicle lost control and crashed into the gate. On July 17, 2026, Pol. Col. Nophadol Rukchati, commander of Nong Khai Provincial Police, along with other provincial officials and the Nong Khai inter-agency task force, received two Thai girls from Lao authorities at the Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge checkpoint in Muang District, Nong Khai province. The teenagers had fallen victim to human trafficking. According to initial questioning, the two 15-year-old victims from Chiang Mai had rented accommodation together with a female friend in Fang District starting in February. On April 3, their roommate invited them to travel to Laos, accompanied by three older acquaintances who ferried them across the Mekong River via a natural crossing near Chiang Saen in Chiang Rai. Upon arriving in Ton Phuang in Bokeo province, a Lao woman drove them to a guesthouse, confiscated their phones, and told them a friend owed a debt of 300,000 baht, using them as collateral while detaining them. Four days later, on April 7, a Chinese man arrived and forced them to call relatives demanding ransom, threatening to sell them in Myanmar or harvest their organs if payment was not made. The girls contacted their relatives, who filed a missing person report at Fang Police Station. Thai authorities coordinated with Laotian officials to locate and safely extract both girls, after which they were taken to protective custody in Vientiane. Following completion of official procedures, they were escorted through Nong Khai immigration and returned to Thailand.

Taiwan has extended its trial visa-free entry program for Thai passport holders by another year, allowing Thais to travel to the self-ruled island without a visa until 31 July 2027. Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said the extension, which takes effect on 1 August 2026, also applies to nationals of Brunei and the Philippines. The decision followed an inter-agency review of Taiwan's visa and entry policies for countries covered under its New Southbound Policy (NSP), an initiative aimed at strengthening ties with Southeast Asia and other regional partners. MOFA said authorities evaluated the effectiveness of the visa-free scheme and other travel facilitation measures before agreeing to extend the program for another year. Sophon stressed that the initiative reflects genuine goodwill and involves cooperation between local government and administrative authorities, aimed at improving quality of life with human dignity. "Buriram shows the goodness in people's hearts," he said.

Mr. Tu, the first beneficiary, expressed joy and gratitude, noting that the new home will significantly improve his family's living conditions. He previously lived in a cramped, deteriorating structure borrowed from his aunt and sometimes had to sleep in a shelter.
