Man Pushes Former Election Commissioner Off Bicycle Outside Police Station
A man pushed a former Election Commission member off his bicycle outside Thonglor Police Station in Bangkok on September 4, with the confrontation escalating into threats and further violence before police intervened.
On September 4, former Election Commission member Somchai Srisuthiyakorn arrived at Thonglor Police Station at a scheduled time to file a complaint against Nattawut Wongniam, who was waiting for him outside. As Somchai cycled up to the station entrance, Nattawut confronted him, saying "Where are you going? Where are you going?" before grabbing his arm and pushing him to the ground with his bicycle in front of journalists and police.
Somchai shouted, "This is assault—arrest him!" Journalists intervened, telling Nattawut this constituted bodily harm and was unprofessional, noting he had been a lawyer. Nattawut refused to stop and challenged the reporters, asking "Who are you? Stay neutral." He denied assault, insisting he had done nothing wrong and declared he was ready to face them, saying he had come to seek an arrest warrant.
Somchai asked police to intervene. Nattawut continued shouting that he was not afraid, daring Somchai to file a report and calling him a thief. He waved documents claiming to have an arrest warrant and made further threats. As Thonglor Police attempted to separate the two, Nattawut refused to comply and tried to approach Somchai again, ripping his hat off. Police warned they would handcuff him if he did not cooperate, after which Nattawut finally complied and went with officers.
