A gunman opened fire on Purachai Pimrasen, a 65-year-old former village headman and brother of Bhumjaithai Party MP Awuyporn Chaowalittr, on the evening of May 8 in Nakhon Si Thammarat province. A black sedan pulled up to a shop in tambon Tha Khuen, Tha Sala district, and a man in a red shirt emerged and fired at Purachai, who was inside the shop, but the gun misfired. The suspect, identified as Sakorn (surname withheld), 41 years old, then fled and turned himself in to Tha Sala police. Purachai, visibly shaken, explained that the man approached him with a shotgun and attempted to fire, but the weapon jammed.
