Man Shot Dead Over Love Triangle in Phrae
A 58-year-old man was shot dead in Phrae province on September 29 after visiting a woman involved in a love triangle; police are hunting the gunman who fled into a forest with a 9mm weapon.
At 10:00 a.m. on September 29, 2026, officers from Huai Rai Police Station in Den Chai district, Phrae province, received a report of a fatal shooting at a residence in Huai Lak Gun village. Police, rescue workers, emergency physicians, and forensic officers arrived to find the body of Sawat, 58, lying in the yard with multiple gunshot wounds from a 9mm weapon. Preliminary investigation revealed the victim had come to visit a young woman with whom he was close. The woman, who was already married and in the process of divorce, had a deteriorating relationship with her husband, which created jealousy and conflict leading to the tragedy.
According to the victim's daughter, her father had grown fond of the young woman and was preparing to separate from her mother. The woman was simultaneously estranged from her own husband and seeking a divorce. These circumstances fueled jealousy and arguments that escalated into violence. Police Captain Tatthep Chotdechai, commander of Huai Rai Police Station, ordered an investigation team led by Police Lieutenant Yuthana Thima to pursue the gunman and seek an arrest warrant. Authorities intend to file charges once the suspect is apprehended.
The gunman reportedly fled into a forest area in Huai Lak Gun village with the 9mm weapon used in the shooting. Police are actively tracking him and pressuring him to surrender. Preliminary findings suggest jealousy and relationship conflict as the motive. The shooting occurred approximately seven days after the victim separated from his wife and began a relationship with the young woman.
