According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United has directly contacted Marcus Rashford's representatives to arrange the English forward's return to Old Trafford. The club has informed Rashford's agents that it wants him back for pre-season training as part of new manager Michael Carrick's team-building strategy. Rashford appears receptive to a fresh start under Carrick's tenure.
The situation has been complicated by Barcelona's position. His loan spell at the Spanish club has ended, and while Barcelona wanted to extend the loan for another season, they were unwilling to pay the £26 million purchase price. Manchester United rejected all loan proposals, effectively forcing Rashford to return to his parent club.
However, Carrick cannot guarantee Rashford's long-term future, as the player holds a release clause in his contract. If another club makes an attractive offer, a transfer could still occur. Currently, Rashford is under contract with Manchester United until 2028.
