A mentally ill son killed his mother in a dispute over money to buy an additional car after she had already bought him two motorcycles, before barricading himself in the house. On October 30, 2026, Police Lieutenant Colonel Suthisak Sanit, Deputy Inspector (Investigation) of Wiang Sa Police Station, Surat Thani Province, received a report that a son used a knife to kill his biological mother inside a house in Village 7, Ban Song Subdistrict, Wiang Sa District, Surat Thani Province. Police rushed to the scene along with Police Lieutenant Colonel Narong Rakprathum, Superintendent of Wiang Sa Police Station, investigators, Forensic Science Center 8 staff, and Wiang Sa rescue workers. The scene was a single-story house where the perpetrator, Mr. Pongphanich, aged 26, had barricaded himself inside. Officers negotiated before they were able to apprehend him. Upon searching the house, they found the body of Mrs. Juriporn, aged 52, the perpetrator's biological mother, with a knife wound to the neck and another to the face. A kitchen knife was found at the scene and collected as evidence. Preliminary investigation revealed that Mr. Pongphanich had a history of mental health treatment and had been discharged as a recovered patient. The motive was that the deceased had previously sold para rubber trees and received a sum of money. After that, Mr. Pongphanich asked for money to buy two motorcycles, which the mother purchased. Before the incident, the son asked the mother for money to buy another car, but she refused, leading to a violent quarrel before Mr. Pongphanich used a kitchen knife to kill her. Police then took the perpetrator into custody for further legal proceedings.
