On September 8, Nong Din Daeng Police Station in Buriram received a report of a stabbing attack. A 36-year-old man under the influence of methamphetamine threw a gas canister at his 64-year-old mother and chased her with a knife after she refused to give him money for drugs. The mother dodged the canister, which struck her legs and torso, but was pursued and stabbed at as she ran. Neighbors witnessed the attack, apprehended the suspect, and alerted police.
The mother explained that her unemployed son demands money from her daily to buy methamphetamine. She sometimes gives him money out of fear of being harmed, but on this occasion had only 10 baht available, though he demanded 60 baht. When she refused, he threw the gas canister at her. She said living with him is a constant struggle: if she cannot provide drug money, he attacks her; if he uses heavily, he verbally abuses her. She appealed for help but said no one has come to assist her.
The son denied throwing the gas canister, claiming his mother lifted it to block herself, and that she attempted to stab him with a knife but he dodged in time. He said he was angry because he was hungry and wanted 30 baht for noodles, but she only gave him 10 baht, which was insufficient. He suggested his mother may have fabricated the story to get him in trouble. Police took him into custody for drug testing and questioning before proceeding with legal charges.
