100kg Boulder Crashes Through Pickup, Driver Killed

A massive 100-kilogram boulder fell from a cliff and crushed a pickup truck on Highway 106 in Thoen District, Lampang Province, at 5:30 p.m. on September 8, 2569, killing the driver, 42-year-old Sonthaya. Police from Thoen Station, hospital staff, and rescue teams rushed to the scene at kilometer 117 near Napong Subdistrict, where they found a gray Isuzu pickup truck with Chiang Mai registration crushed under the enormous rock. The vehicle's roof had caved inward from the impact.

Based on initial investigation, Sonthaya was driving back to his home in Doi Tao District, Chiang Mai, from Sisaket Province with his girlfriend. Before the incident, heavy rain had made the road slippery, causing the truck to lose control on a curved uphill section. Another driver helped him get the vehicle back onto the roadside, and Sonthaya was preparing to continue driving when the boulder broke loose from the cliff and fell directly onto the roof of the cab. Sonthaya died instantly, while his girlfriend, who was sitting on the passenger side, narrowly escaped with no serious injuries.

Police from Thoen Station and local administration officials, along with rescue teams, investigated the scene and transported the victim's body to Thoen Hospital for autopsy to determine the official cause of death. The victim's family was notified to claim the body for religious funeral rites.
