Debt Collectors Raid Wrong House, Barricade Woman Inside
Illegal debt collectors raided the wrong house in Chon Buri and barricaded a woman inside, mistaking her for a previous tenant who owed 4,000 baht. Police freed her after she called for help, and the men fled when they realized their error.
At 5 p.m. on September 8, police from Don Hua Lo Station in Chon Buri Province responded to a distress call from a woman reporting that a group of illegal loan collectors had stormed her home demanding repayment. Officers arrived at a two-story townhouse in Tambon Na Pa, Muang Chon Buri District, to find the front door bound tightly with wire from the outside and the woman calling for help from within. Police quickly cut through the wire and safely removed her from the house.
The woman explained that three men dressed in black with knit caps covering their faces had arrived on motorcycles, shouted and stormed inside demanding repayment of a 4,000-baht loan with alleged daily installments of 100 baht. She told officers she had never borrowed money and had only rented the house less than a month earlier, believing the men had come to the wrong address. She suspected the debt belonged to a previous tenant who was currently hospitalized.
After the woman directed the men to contact her former friend about the debt, they made a phone call and then hastily fled the scene on their motorcycles. Before leaving, however, they secured the front door with wire from outside, preventing her from escaping until police officers arrived and freed her safely.
