A deeply troubling case emerged from the community on September 7 when a 60-year-old blind woman found herself trapped in a nightmare within her own home. Her 26-year-old son, heavily dependent on drugs, has subjected her to brutal physical abuse and constant threats. The mother has been forced to endure daily extortion of money—300 baht per day—which the son uses to buy drugs and socialize with friends. She has also been coerced into taking out illegal loans under threat of severe beatings if she refuses or fails to produce money.
Desperate for help, the mother reached out to a community assistance page, requesting that her son be sent for rehabilitation and that legal proceedings be pursued to the fullest extent. Ekaphop Luangprasert, founder of the assistance page, along with officers from Saiyai Police Station, conducted an investigation at the house in the Saiyai area. While the team was en route, the son called his mother with violent and abusive language, ordering her to return home immediately.
When the officials and team arrived at the house, the son came out and was spotted carrying a concealed knife at his waist. Officers immediately charged, restrained, and forced him to the ground for safety. During initial questioning, the son admitted to physically assaulting his mother, claiming angrily that she refused to care for him. He initially denied demanding money for drugs, but when police searched the house, they discovered clear evidence of drug paraphernalia, ecstasy pills, and cannabis scattered throughout. Officers also found sharpened sticks and knives that the son had used to assault his mother, which were seized as evidence.
Jan, the 60-year-old mother, disclosed detailed accounts of her suffering, explaining that her son's behavior has deteriorated progressively. Two weeks prior, he slapped her hard on the ear simply because she was unwilling to ask his friend to fetch cigarettes from the bedroom. This torment has been so severe that she has considered ending her life, but she restrains herself out of concern for what would become of her son without her. Although she had previously reported him to police after he inflicted serious injuries, when she sent him for rehabilitation, authorities released him shortly after, and he returned to committing the same crimes. He has even forced her to provide urine samples on his behalf to submit to authorities in hopes of evading charges—something she could not refuse for fear of severe beatings.
Saiyai Police Station has taken the son into custody for detailed questioning at the station and is preparing to send him for drug testing. Two serious charges have been filed: assault and drug possession. Additional charges related to threats and intimidation, as well as weapons offenses, are pending the mother's formal complaint.
