Meteorological Bureau Issues Heavy Rain Alert Across Thailand

On August 4, 2025, the Thai Meteorological Department issued its first alert (143/2025) warning of strong winds in the upper Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand, along with heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across Thailand from August 6-9, 2025. The northern, northeastern, and eastern regions will experience increased rainfall with heavy to extremely heavy downpours in some areas, while the central region including Bangkok and its vicinity, as well as the southern region, will face heavy rain in certain areas. The severe weather is caused by a monsoon trough passing over the upper northern and upper northeastern regions combined with a strong southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the upper Gulf of Thailand. The public is warned to be vigilant against dangers from heavy rainfall and accumulated water that may cause flash floods and flashfloods, particularly in foothill areas near waterways and low-lying zones. In the upper Andaman Sea, waves are expected to reach 2-4 meters, exceeding 3 meters during thunderstorms. In the upper Gulf of Thailand, waves are forecast at 2-3 meters, exceeding 3 meters in thunderstorm areas. Fishermen in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand are advised to navigate carefully and avoid areas with thunderstorms. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea and upper Gulf should remain ashore from August 6-9, 2025.
