Minister Praises Rescue of Three Lost Villagers in Chiang Rai
Minister Suphat Chommongkhon praised the safe rescue of three villagers lost in the Tham Luang‑Khun Nam Nang National Park in Chiang Rai. He thanked over sixty rescuers from park rangers, military, police, volunteers and local residents for their cooperation amid heavy rain. The minister ordered the Department of National Parks to strengthen safety measures to protect visitors and tourists.

He said on October 5, 2026, that officials rescued 39‑year‑old Tanong, who had been stranded on Doi Nang Non since October 2, bringing him to safety by October 4 despite heavy rain and low visibility. He congratulated the families and thanked the cooperation of over sixty personnel from various units: Tham Luang‑Khun Nam Nang National Park officers, Mae Kok National Park officers, war dogs of Border Patrol Police Division 32, Mae Sai Special Operations Unit, the 37th Military Circle Mengrai Maharaj Camp, Forest Resources Management Office 2 (Chiang Rai), the Chiang Rai Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Center (volunteers), the Siam Chiang Rai Foundation Mae Sai point, Mae Sai Hospital, the Chiang Rai Provincial Internal Security Operations Command, Village Defense Volunteers of Ban Chong, and local residents. The successful rescue of the three villagers reflects unity and effective coordination among state agencies, military, police, rescue units, and the public working together under difficult weather conditions. He urged all agencies under the ministry to stay prepared and increase safety vigilance to continually assist the public and tourists in their areas of responsibility.
