Port Authority Launches Mobile Crane Service at Chiang Saen Port

The Port Authority of Thailand (PAT) has launched a mobile crane service at Chiang Saen Commercial Port in Chiang Rai province to support container transportation linking Thailand and southern China, with special fee rates for six months to boost logistics and encourage operators to use the waterway route. The first container lift service began on September 2, 2025. On September 4, Acting Port Authority Director Rattakorn Khiewpaisarn, Finance and Corporate Strategy Deputy Director, announced that the port authority has upgraded Chiang Saen Commercial Port's readiness to handle container shipments by installing mobile cranes at the dock to improve service speed and efficiency while building confidence among cargo owners, shipping lines, and logistics operators.

Chiang Saen Commercial Port occupies a strategic location linking transportation to southern China via the Mekong River, particularly on the route between Chiang Saen and Guanlei port in the People's Republic of China. The mobile crane service will enhance container handling capacity and promote the growth of transport along this corridor. The port is also offering special reduced fee rates for six months to help lower logistics costs for operators and encourage increased use of container services through Chiang Saen.

The acting director added that the first service day on September 2 drew strong interest, with 15 import containers and 15 export containers totaling 30 containers processed. The Port Authority will continue to promote the service and facilitate trade, import-export, and logistics operators to increase container volumes and sustain transport along the Chiang Saen-Guanlei route. The PAT is ready to support interested operators and push Chiang Saen Commercial Port to become another trade and logistics gateway connecting Thailand with southern China and the Mekong River subregion.
