Thailand's Competition Board Hears Rider and Restaurant Concerns Over Platform Fees
Thailand's Competition Board is investigating high commission fees and unfair practices by food delivery and ride-hailing platforms after hearing concerns from riders and restaurants.
The Thailand Competition Commission has opened a forum to gather in-depth feedback from delivery riders and restaurant operators about complaints regarding high commission charges by ride-hailing and food delivery platforms, as well as concerns over unfair contract terms and account suspension practices. On September 3, 2025, Worawarn Chittarun, a competition commissioner and chair of the subcommittee overseeing competitive conditions in the ride-hailing market, announced that the commission's office had held focus group discussions with business operators and service providers in the ride-hailing and on-demand delivery ecosystem. The forum followed the closure of public online comment on August 31, 2025, and aims to investigate operational challenges on digital platforms based on the real-world experiences of workers, particularly delivery riders and restaurant owners, who are major stakeholders in the digital platform ecosystem.
