Mother's Premonition Before Buddhist Monk Hit By Child Driver
A Buddhist monk was fatally struck by an 11-year-old driving a pickup truck during an alms-gathering procession in Mukdahan Province, fulfilling his mother's premonition when he had reassured her "I won't die" before departing.
A mother recounted her foreboding before her son, a Buddhist monk, was fatally struck by an 11-year-old driving a pickup truck during an alms-gathering procession. She recalled trying to stop him with concern, but he reassured her by saying "I won't die."
At 8:30 AM on July 4, 2025, a reporter met with Nang Pantja Chaileert, 69, from Pong Daeng village in Gud Khon Kaen Subdistrict, Phu Wiang District, Khon Kaen Province. She is the mother of Phra Kham Singh Chaileert, 41, who was struck and killed by an 11-year-old boy driving a pickup truck in Mukdahan Province. Nang Pantja remained deeply grieving and unable to come to terms with her youngest son's death.
Nang Pantja explained that Phra Kham Singh ordained during Buddhist Lent 2568. Before that, her son had suffered a severe accident requiring hospitalization, from which he recovered. However, following that accident, his physical condition and certain abilities were not fully restored. Eventually, Phra Yongyut came to practice his rainy season retreat at a temple in the village. Phra Kham Singh would often visit to speak with Phra Yongyut. When Phra Yongyut requested permission and consented to allow the young man to ordain, Nang Pantja felt great concern, given his previous accident and incomplete physical recovery. But Phra Yongyut assured her he would provide care himself and told her not to worry. Her son also expressed his desire to ordain, so she gave her permission.
"After his ordination, Phra Kham Singh and Phra Yongyut would often go on alms-gathering processions to various places and returned to the temple each time. Before the latest trip, Phra Kham Singh came home and said he would go on an alms procession first, then return to observe the rainy season retreat at the village temple as usual. Out of concern, I told him, 'Don't go, my son.' Phra Kham Singh replied, 'I won't die.' After that, he said nothing more and departed with the alms-gathering procession to Mukdahan Province."
Nang Pantja recounted that after learning of the accident, she was severely shocked, unable to function, her body weakened and exhausted. She urged her husband to call Phra Yongyut, but no one answered because Phra Yongyut was also injured in the incident. Later, a nephew who had accompanied the procession and was among the first to help reported that Phra Kham Singh was covered in blood. When they lifted his body, he gasped three times before becoming silent at the accident scene.
"I believe my son may have passed away right at the accident site. The night after the incident, the temple's dogs barked throughout the night. I believe Phra Kham Singh may have returned to the temple, choosing not to disturb his parents at home, since I had sent him off to a good rebirth and to the place he desired."
