Motorcycle Rider Killed After Car Strikes Him Into Canal
A 48-year-old motorcyclist was killed on August 20 in Trat province when a 60-year-old car driver, startled and accidentally pressing the accelerator, struck his motorcycle and forced both vehicles into a roadside canal. The victim was on his way to pick up his child from school when the collision occurred. Police are investigating the incident and have gathered evidence for legal proceedings.

At 5:30 p.m. on August 20, 2025, Mueang Trat police received a report of a vehicle-motorcycle collision that sent both vehicles into a drainage canal, with one fatality. The incident occurred in Moo 5, Nong Semet subdistrict, Mueang district, Trat province.
At the scene, officers found a bronze-gray Toyota sedan with Chachoengsao license plate GL-1828 submerged in the canal, alongside a white-blue Honda Wave motorcycle with Trat license plate 1 KKH 3963, also in the water.
The victim was identified as Prasert, 48, who was struck by the sedan and pinned underwater. Rescue workers and local residents struggled to lift the car away from his body. A crane was brought in to extract him from the water with great difficulty. The sedan driver was identified as Chatchai, 60, who sustained injuries and was taken to Phra Piyamaharat Hospital for treatment.
According to witness accounts, Chatchai had driven to visit a friend in a nearby soi but found no one home, so he was backing out when he encountered Prasert's motorcycle crossing the main road. Startled, he accidentally pressed the accelerator, striking the motorcycle with great force and dragging the rider into the canal, resulting in his death.
When Prasert's daughter and relatives arrived at the scene, they wept upon seeing his body. Family members stated that Prasert had been riding to pick up his child from school when the accident occurred.
Mueang Trat police documented evidence at the scene and are following up on the injured driver's condition and statement to proceed with legal proceedings.
