Motorcyclist Smashes Windshield, Punches Woman in Road Rage
A road rage incident at Bangkok's Ladprao intersection left a 27-year-old woman injured after a motorcyclist smashed her car windshield and punched her in the face. The attack occurred after she honked at the rider, who had a broken muffler and made an illegal U-turn. Police are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the suspect, who fled the scene, and the victim has appealed for public assistance with dashcam evidence.
At 10:00 a.m. on October 23, 2024, reporters at Phahon Yothin Police Station learned of an incident that occurred the previous evening around 7:50–8:00 p.m. A man on an unregistered motorcycle, appearing enraged, smashed the windshield of a car driven by 'Ms. A,' age 27, and assaulted her inside the vehicle, striking her left eye socket and causing bruising, allegedly because she had honked her horn.
Before meeting with investigators, Ms. A recounted that on the evening of October 22, she was driving under the Ladprao bridge when the motorcycle and her car traveled in the same lane. At the U-turn point beneath the bridge, the motorcyclist braked suddenly to make a U-turn despite having already passed it. She gave a short warning honk, but does not know whether her car grazed the motorcycle.
Ms. A continued toward the Chatuchak area, where traffic was heavy. The motorcyclist pulled up beside her car, shook the door, smashed the driver's side window, and shouted profanities. She tried to apologize with a wai from inside the car, but he was unsatisfied. He then jumped onto the hood and kicked the windshield until it cracked, terrifying her. After the windshield shattered, he jumped down to the driver's door, tried to open it, pounded on the window, and screamed, "Get out! Get out! Get out!"
"I was extremely scared and no one came to help, so I decided to open the door to talk and wai in apology," she said. "But he wasn't satisfied and punched me once in the left eye socket, causing injury."
Ms. A believed the man had vented his anger and walked away, prompting her to file a report at Phahon Yothin Station. CCTV footage in the area did not clearly capture the motorcycle's license plate, so she is appealing for witnesses or dashcam footage to aid the investigation.
She described the attacker as wearing a dark blue jacket and a helmet with the visor up, allowing her to see his face. She emphasized that a simple flower garland apology would not suffice, asking the public to consider whether they would accept one if it were their daughter. She added that if the man claims she actually struck his motorcycle, she is ready to accept responsibility, but insists on pursuing the case to the fullest extent.
Pol. Lt. Col. Marut Sudnongbua, superintendent of Phahon Yothin Station, confirmed that preliminary information indicates both parties made contact on the inbound Ladprao road, after which the motorcyclist became enraged and attacked as seen in the video clip. The victim was punched once in the eye socket and has filed a report. The investigation team has been ordered to trace the suspect's escape route via CCTV.
