NHRC Calls for Pause on Hua Hin Fishing Village Demolition
The National Human Rights Commission has urged Hua Hin’s mayor to halt the demolition of a traditional fishing community after residents complained they would lose homes and livelihoods without any relocation plan. The NHRC warns the eviction threatens housing, property and community rights, and has asked the mayor to pause the orders while it investigates. The mayor reportedly plans to begin demolitions as early as 16 October 2026.
15 October 2026 – The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) sent an urgent letter dated 12 October 2026 to the Hua Hin mayor, requesting a delay in the forced eviction and demolition of buildings in the traditional fishing community stretching from Hua Hin Fish Bridge to the Mae Taptim Shrine along Ratsadaphorn Road. Residents say they would lose their homes and livelihoods without any relocation or support measures, and the mayor plans to carry out the demolitions as early as 16 October 2026. The NHRC warned that the action threatens community, property and housing rights, and has asked the mayor to suspend the orders while it investigates the complaints, citing its authority under Sections 26 and 33 of the Organic Act on the National Human Rights Commission of 2017.
