One More Fisherman Found; Five Still Missing After Boat Sinks
One more crew member was found alive after the fishing vessel S. Kanchanawari 888 capsized off Chon Buri, bringing rescues to 16, but five Myanmar workers remain missing and two are believed trapped inside the wreck.
A second rescue worker found one additional crew member from the fishing vessel S. Kanchanawari 888, which capsized in the sea off Samet Channel in Sattahip District, Chon Buri Province. In the afternoon of September 22, fifteen rescued crew members were brought ashore at the fish dock and received initial medical screening before being transferred to Sirikit Naval Hospital for detailed examination. Later in the evening, fishing vessels assisting in the search discovered Yi Sin floating in the sea and brought him safely aboard, bringing the total number of rescued crew to sixteen.
Five Myanmar crew members remain unaccounted for: Soe Lat (38 years old), San Htike (47), Naing Oo (45), Htun Lwin (22), and Khin Maung Aye (47). Initial reports suggest two of the missing men are believed trapped inside the wreck and dead, though positive identification has not yet been confirmed. The other three remain unaccounted for, and search operations continue. Authorities suspended search efforts at the wreck site at nightfall for safety reasons, with fishing vessels maintaining watch throughout the night.
Search operations will resume the following day with a special task force from Naval Area 1, including Navy SEAL units, the patrol vessel T.112, and rescue teams from Sawang Rojtanatham Foundation. They will assess weather conditions and water currents before attempting to recover bodies believed to be trapped inside the vessel. After recovery operations are complete, plans will be made to salvage the S. Kanchanawari 888 and investigate the cause of the capsizing.
