Thailand Volleyball Star Calls Asian Games Medal a Win
Thailand's women's volleyball team won bronze at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan, defeating South Korea 3-0, with star spiker Ajcharaporn Kongyosot calling the medal a bonus after the team secured an Olympic qualification spot.
Ajcharaporn Kongyosot, star spiker for Thailand's national volleyball team, said this year her dreams came true. She considers the Asian Games a success even though the team did not win gold.
In the women's volleyball bronze medal match at the 2026 Asian Games held at Park Arena Komaki in Japan on September 22, Thailand's women's volleyball team, ranked 13th globally, defeated South Korea, ranked 28th, 3-0 with set scores of 25-20, 25-19, and 25-23.
After the match, Ajcharaporn spoke about the team's overall performance this year, saying that although they started poorly, they improved step by step, learning and developing along the way. Their real dream came true—securing an Olympic ticket. The Asian Games felt like a bonus, and winning a medal there was an added gain. She felt the year was highly worthwhile.
Thailand's national sports reward scheme for athletes winning medals at the 2026 Asian Games offers 2 million baht for gold, 1 million baht for silver, and 500,000 baht for bronze.
