Police Arrest Chinese National for Overstay, Gun, and Drugs
Police arrested a 50-year-old Chinese national in Bangkok for overstaying his visa by 586 days and possessing a revolver and methamphetamine, which he allegedly purchased from Chinese associates.
On September 23 at approximately 4 p.m., Wang Thonglang police officers, coordinating with immigration officials, responded to a report from the public via the Wang Thonglang radio center. A suspicious man matching the description of a Chinese national was spotted sitting in front of a hotel on Soi Ladphrao 122, Branch 15, in the Phlapphla subdistrict, Wang Thonglang district, Bangkok. The man was believed to be carrying a firearm.
When officers arrived, they found a 50-year-old Chinese national matching the description and unable to produce a passport. Upon inspection, police discovered one revolver hidden in a black handbag. Further search of the suspect's luggage revealed 4.8 grams of methamphetamine packed in a metal container along with drug paraphernalia. Urine tests confirmed the presence of drugs in his system.
Through an interpreter, the suspect admitted to purchasing the methamphetamine from a Chinese friend for 5,000 baht and claimed the firearm came from another Chinese associate before his planned departure. Immigration records showed the man had overstayed in Thailand for 586 days beyond his permitted visa period.
Police charged him with illegal possession of a firearm, carrying a firearm in public without justification, possession of methamphetamine without authorization, drug use, and overstaying as an illegal alien. He was transferred to Wang Thonglang police station for continued investigation and prosecution.
