Pathum Thani Flood Waters Stagnant for Seven Days, Turn Foul
Floodwaters have stagnated for about seven days in Lam Sam Kaeo, Pathum Thani, turning foul and disrupting daily life for thousands of residents. Villagers are urging the municipality to pump water out, while former officials and volunteers distribute food, water and other essentials by boat to stranded households. Authorities are being called to restore drainage and alleviate the inundation.
Residents of Lam Sam Kaeo, Pathum Thani, voiced their distress after seven days of unchanged floodwaters that have started to turn foul, demanding urgent pumping. Reporting on October 2, 2069, journalists noted that floodwater continues to inundate Lam Sam Kaeo Municipality, Khu Khot Subdistrict, Lam Luk Ka District, Pathum Thani Province, severely affecting residents, especially in Soi Boon Khum 4 and Village 7 and surrounding low‑lying areas bordering the canal, where slow drainage has caused some spots to become putrid and disrupt daily life. Locals called on the municipality to install pumps and discharge water into the canal to reduce road flooding so they can commute to work, obtain food and water, and sustain their livelihoods. Former mayor Daruninee Wat Kaeo, accompanied by her family, travelled by row‑boat to the flooded zone, offering encouragement and delivering dry food, drinking water, canned fish, milk, instant noodles and eggs to households cut off by the water. She said she wanted to give a small token of sympathy to help residents cope and overcome the crisis together, noting the area’s bowl‑like terrain makes it prone to easy flooding and that, despite roughly seven days of standing water, relief remains uneven and water volumes stay high, especially in Soi Boon Khum 4 and Soi Boon Khum Village 7. Although no longer holding office, she used personal funds to purchase relief supplies, which volunteers and locals helped distribute, originally planning five eggs per household but reducing to three to stretch supplies further. Former municipal council president Phailawan Phuangchoen added that the low‑lying, canal‑adjacent area has historically flooded during heavy rain, and past administrations had installed pumps and drainage systems, including canal‑side embankments and piped outlets, to quickly lower water levels; she urged current officials, including the interior minister, permanent secretary, provincial governor and Lam Luk Ka district chief, to act swiftly to alleviate the flooding that has left thousands unable to live or work normally.
