Police Arrest Chinese Drug Gang Leader with 50 Million Baht
Thai police arrested a Chinese man identified as Wang, alleged leader of an international drug trafficking ring, after finding more than 50 million baht in his accounts. The operation, carried out by immigration and narcotics officials with Chinese cooperation, followed his entry into Thailand via Satun and subsequent extension of his stay. Authorities have revoked his permission to remain in the country and are expanding the investigation.
Police Lieutenant General Nopasin Punsawat, along with Deputy Commissioner General Thanit Thaiwacharama and Major General Srawut Khon Yai, directed the operation. The arrest team, led by Lieutenant Colonel Sittimon Soyphurayya of Immigration Bureau 6 and Lieutenant Colonel Phurit Kammun of the Narcotics Crime Division, worked with the Office of the Narcotics Control Board. Wang, who had entered Thailand on June 22, 2026 via the Satun checkpoint and was permitted to stay until August 20, 2026, had applied for an extension valid until October 8, 2026. Investigators found he had been hiding in various locations in Satun province and Bangkok, finally locating him in a luxury home in the Bangkok Greeta district. Police seized more than 13 items including mobile phones, bank books and ATM cards. Preliminary checks showed his account received over 50 million baht in a few months. His permission to remain in Thailand was revoked under immigration law for posing a threat to national security. Police Chief Nopasin Punsawat said the arrest follows Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Police General Somsak Nualma’s policy to crack down on foreign criminals and strengthen international cooperation, stressing that Thailand will not harbor fugitives.
