Pattaya United Condemns Racist Abuse, Launches Investigation
Pattaya United condemned racist abuse by fans targeting Phitsanulok FC's Korean coach Park Hang-seo and player John Baggio after a Thai League 2 match. The club launched an investigation and pledged disciplinary action.
Pattaya United Football Club, competing in Thai League 2, released a statement expressing its stance against racism following an incident where fans allegedly hurled racial abuse at Phitsanulok FC personnel, including Korean head coach Park Hang-seo and striker John Baggio.
The incident occurred after the Thai League 2 match between Phitsanulok FC and Pattaya United ended in a 2-2 draw on November 1, 2026. As Coach Park Hang-seo was heading to the dressing room, a spectator believed to be a Pattaya United fan shouted offensive remarks including "kimchi" — referencing the Korean staple food — and called Baggio "tia," a derogatory term. The Korean coach confronted the fan, prompting stadium officials to intervene and defuse the situation.
In its statement, Pattaya United expressed regret over the incident and concern for those affected. The club outlined four key positions: a firm stance against all forms of racism and discrimination; a commitment to thoroughly verify facts in coordination with match organizers and stadium officials; appropriate disciplinary action against any individuals found responsible, in accordance with regulations; and a pledge to cooperate with all parties to foster a respectful, safe football culture and prevent recurrence.
