On October 2, 2026, at 9:45 p.m., a white Mazda BT-50 pickup with a Bangkok license plate struck two German tourists as they crossed a zebra crossing near the Orchid Restaurant in Takua Pa district, Phang Nga. The woman, identified as 63‑year‑old Gabriela, was found at the scene and later died despite rescue efforts. The man, 64‑year‑old Wilbert, was taken to Takua Pa Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:32 p.m.; Gabriela was confirmed dead at 11:04 p.m. Police say the driver fled the scene toward Thai Mueang district and are reviewing surveillance footage to locate the vehicle and its operator. The two tourists had been staying at a local hotel from September 30 to October 9. Investigators have filed charges of reckless driving causing death and are continuing to identify the driver.
