Driver Surrenders After Hit‑and‑Run Kills German Couple in Phang Nga
Authorities in Phang Nga have located the pickup truck involved in a fatal hit‑and‑run that killed a German tourist couple while they crossed a zebra crossing. The driver fled the scene, left the vehicle beside a temple, and later surrendered to Khao Lak Police Station. He is being held for reckless driving charges that led to the deaths.
The white Mazda pickup that struck the German couple while they were crossing the zebra crossing in the Nang Thong tourist area of Khao Lak has been located. Officers said the driver abandoned the vehicle beside a temple in Lam Kaen subdistrict, Thai Mueang district, before contacting authorities and surrendering at Khao Lak Police Station. The incident took place on the evening of October 2, killing the two tourists instantly. According to village head Umaporn Pakaikhlam of Lam Kaen, officials from all relevant agencies coordinated the search and found the truck parked in a lane next to a local temple. Pol. Col. Jetsada Chantaphum, Superintendent of Khao Lak Police Station, confirmed that the driver is being held for questioning on charges of reckless driving causing death and injury, and will face prosecution in court. Surveillance footage from the scene has been obtained.
