Vietnam Beats Thailand for Women's Sepak Takraw Asian Games Gold
Vietnam defeated Thailand 2-1 in sets to win the women's four-person sepak takraw gold at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, leaving Thailand with the silver. Thailand led the second set but lost after Vietnam rallied, while Vipada Jitpruwan's serving saved the set for Thailand. The loss extends Thailand's Asian Games title drought in the event since 2018, while Vietnam claimed its third gold of the Games.
The Thai women were defeated by Vietnam 1-2 in sets, avenging their earlier loss in the women's four-person sepak takraw final at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya 2026, leaving Thailand with only a silver medal. Having lost to Vietnam in the preliminary round, Thailand began the match poorly as Vietnam took the first set 15-11. In the second set, Thailand played well and led 13-8, but Vietnam rallied with six consecutive points to lead 14-13. However, strong serving from Vipada Jitpruwan allowed Thailand to survive and win the set 17-15. In the third set, Vietnam capitalized on every Thai serve to finish the match 15-11, securing a 2-1 victory with set scores 15-11, 15-17, 15-11. The Thai side has now gone two Asian Games editions without a title since their last championship in 2018, earning Thailand just two gold medals in these Games—from the men's singles and women's team events. Meanwhile, this gold medal marks Vietnam's third gold at these Asian Games, having also won in women's doubles sepak takraw, women's four-person sepak takraw, and the men's team kata in karate.
