Thailand Issues Heavy Rain Warning for Upper Regions
Thailand's Meteorological Department issued its third weather warning for heavy rain and strong winds affecting upper Thailand from October 4 to 7, 2026. The advisory cautions against staying in open areas and near insecure billboards due to risks of flash floods and rough seas. Mariners are advised to avoid thunderstorm zones as wave heights may exceed two meters.
The Thai Meteorological Department announced that from October 4 to 7, 2026, upper Thailand will experience variable weather with thunderstorms, strong gusts, and heavy to very heavy rainfall in some areas. The impacts will vary by region: on October 4, the upper North and eastern Northeast; on October 5-6, the North, Central (including Bangkok and vicinity), East, and upper South, with reduced rain in the Northeast; on October 7, the western North and Central, plus the South, with rain decreasing elsewhere. The conditions are due to a high-pressure system from China extending over the North and upper Northeast while the southwest monsoon continues over the Andaman Sea, southern Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. The public is warned of dangers from thunderstorms, strong winds, heavy and accumulating rain that could cause flash floods and overflow, especially in hilly areas near waterways and low-lying zones, and advised to avoid open spaces, large trees, and insecure billboards. Wave heights in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand may exceed two meters; mariners should check routes and navigate cautiously, avoiding thunderstorm areas. Rain is expected to continue over the eastern and southern regions from October 8 to 12, with heavy to very heavy falls in some places. Residents are urged to follow updates via the department's website or hotline.
