Car Crashes Into 18-Wheel Truck Injuring Couple in Nonthaburi
A married couple driving home from a retirement party crashed into the rear of an 18-wheel truck on Tiwanon Road in Nonthaburi on October 2, 2026. The wife said she was asleep and unaware of the collision, while the truck driver reported feeling a strong impact as he prepared to turn. Both occupants were rescued and taken to hospital for treatment.
The couple, husband Ithiphol (surname withheld), 31, and wife Kanthitai (surname withheld), 27, were driving back from a retirement party when their car struck the rear of an 18-wheel truck, causing extensive damage. CCTV footage of the crash was released. The wife said she did not realize what happened because she had fallen asleep after drinking at the party.
On October 3, 2026, reporters said that at 23:15 on October 2, Pak Kret Police received a report of a car rear-ending an 18-wheel truck on Tiwanon Road, outbound, near the Metropolitan Electricity Authority U-turn point in Ban Mai, Pak Kret, Nonthaburi. Police and volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation rushed to the scene.
Officers found a Nissan sedan with Bangkok license plates crushed against a Hino 18-wheel truck whose front and rear trailer plates were registered in Samut Prakan. Inside the car were two injured people: the driver, identified as Ithiphol (surname withheld), 31, and his wife, Kanthitai (surname withheld), 27.
Rescuers extracted the couple from the wreckage before sending them to Chulapradhan Pak Kret Hospital. Meanwhile, the CCTV showed the truck turning right with its signal on when the car suddenly struck its rear.
Kanthitai said she and her husband had attended a retirement party and were heading home along Tiwanon Road. She admitted they had both been drinking. After getting into the car, she reclined her seat and fell asleep, remaining unaware until the impact.
Truck driver Thawee (surname withheld), 55, said he was in the right lane with his right-turn signal on, preparing to make a U-turn, when he felt a strong rear impact from the car.
Police initially interviewed the truck driver and will take further statements from the injured couple once their condition improves.
