Thailand Forecasts Thunderstorms, Strong Winds Across 37 Provinces
The Thai Meteorological Department warns of thunderstorms, strong winds and possible lightning across 37 provinces, with heavy rain expected in lower southern areas. Sea waves in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand may exceed two metres during storms, urging mariners to exercise caution. The unsettled weather, driven by a weakening southwest monsoon, is forecast to persist from October 3‑7, moving from the north and northeast toward central Thailand and the east.
For the next 24 hours, the northern region will see thunderstorms over about 20% of its area, mainly in Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, Phitsanulok, Phichit and Phetchabun provinces, with lows of 22‑27°C and highs of 34‑38°C, and west‑southwest winds at 10‑15 km/h. The northeastern region expects thunderstorms over 30% of its area, accompanied by gusty winds in places such as Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Udon Thani, Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram and Ubon Ratchathani, with temperatures ranging from 23‑26°C lows to 34‑36°C highs and southerly winds of 10‑15 km/h. In the central region, thunderstorms are forecast for 40% of the area, mainly over Lop Buri, Saraburi, Ayutthaya, Suphan Buri, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi and Nakhon Pathom, with lows of 23‑27°C, highs of 35‑37°C and southerly winds of 10‑15 km/h. The eastern region will also have thunderstorms over 40% of its area, mainly in Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Chachoengsao, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat, with lows of 24‑27°C, highs of 33‑35°C and southerly winds of 10‑30 km/h; sea waves are generally under one metre but can exceed two metres in thunderstorm zones. The eastern southern coast (Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Yala, Narathiwat) will experience thunderstorms over 40% of the area with occasional heavy rain, lows of 23‑25°C, highs of 33‑35°C and west winds of 10‑30 km/h, while sea conditions are similar with waves under one metre normally and over two metres in stormy areas. The western southern coast (Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang) faces thunderstorms over 60% of the area with possible heavy rain, lows of 23‑26°C, highs of 31‑34°C and west winds of 10‑30 km/h, with sea waves under one metre normally and over two metres where thunderstorms occur. Mariners are advised to check routes and avoid sailing in thunderstorm‑affected waters. Looking ahead to October 4‑7, upper Thailand will continue to see thunderstorms, strong winds and heavy rain, beginning in the north and northeast before spreading to central Thailand, Bangkok and the eastern region.
