Thailand Issues Thunderstorm Warning for 37 Provinces
The Thai Meteorological Department warns of increased thunderstorms across 37 provinces, with Bangkok and its vicinity facing a 60 percent chance of rain. Sea waves may exceed two metres in stormy areas, prompting safety advice for mariners and the public. An outlook for October 4‑7 predicts gusty winds and heavy rain spreading from the north and northeast to central and eastern Thailand.
For the next 24 hours, the North is expected to see thunderstorms over 30 percent of its area, mainly in Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, Uttaradit, Phitsanulok and Phetchabun, with lows of 22‑26 °C and highs of 34‑37 °C, and southwest winds at 10‑20 km/h. The Northeast will have thunderstorms over 40 percent of its area, focusing on Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Surin, Sisaket and Ubon Ratchathani, with temperatures 23‑26 °C lows and 35‑36 °C highs, and west winds at 10‑20 km/h. The Central region will experience thunderstorms over 40 percent of its area, mainly in Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Sakhon, Samut Songkhram, Ayutthaya, Lop Buri and Saraburi, with lows 25‑27 °C, highs 35‑37 °C, and southerly winds 10‑20 km/h. The East will see thunderstorms over 40 percent of its area, chiefly in Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Sa Kaeo, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat, with lows 23‑26 °C, highs 33‑35 °C, and southerly winds 15‑30 km/h; sea waves about 1 metre, exceeding 2 metres in thunderstorm zones. The eastern Gulf coast (South) will have thunderstorms over 40 percent of its area, mainly in Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla and Yala, with lows 23‑25 °C, highs 33‑35 °C, and east‑southeast winds 15‑30 km/h; waves about 1 metre, higher than 2 metres in storms. The western Andaman coast (South) will see thunderstorms over 40 percent of its area, mainly in Phuket, Krabi, Trang and Satun, with lows 23‑25 °C, highs 32‑36 °C. North of Ranong: west‑southwest winds 15‑35 km/h, seas 1‑2 metres, higher than 2 metres in thunderstorms. South of Phangnga: east‑southeast winds 15‑30 km/h, seas about 1 metre, higher than 2 metres in thunderstorms.
