Teen Girl Swept Into Drain, Drowns In Kanchanaburi Flood
Fourteen‑year‑old girl drowned after being swept into a drain by flash flooding in Thong Pha Phum, Kanchanaburi. A friend attempted to rescue her with a branch but could not overcome the strong current. Rescue crews recovered her body and police are investigating the incident.
At 4:30 p.m. on October 1, 2024, the Thong Pha Phum police station received a report that a girl had been dragged into a drainage pipe by floodwaters and drowned behind the district office. Officers coordinated with Thong Pha Phum Hospital, the Kanchanaburi Rescue Foundation’s Thong Pha Phum unit, and Thai Disaster Relief Volunteers Unit 34-00 Boonwiphap before rushing to the site. The road behind the office was flooded with flash‑flood water and runoff, blocking the drain with debris and branches. Rescuers and locals managed to pull the girl’s body from the pipe. Earlier, a group of children had gone to play in the standing water; two girls were swept toward the drain opening. One girl grabbed a branch and tried to hold her friend’s hand, but the force of the water was too strong and the friend was pulled into the pipe and drowned before help could arrive.
