Woman Swept Off Bridge During Flood Rescued in Kanchanaburi
In Nong Phrao District, Kanchanaburi Province, floodwaters from heavy rain swept a woman off her motorcycle on a bridge, leaving her clinging to bamboo until rescued, while her bike was lost. The flooding, caused by overflow from local reservoirs and creeks, submerged roads, farms and homes across several villages, halting traffic. Officials are helping residents move goods to higher ground and expect waters to recede within a day or two if rain stops.
On October 15, 2022, reporters noted that ongoing heavy rain since October 13 had raised water levels in Lam Huay Lam Ta Phin creek and three reservoirs, leading to spillway overflow and flooding of villages 1, 3, 6, 8, 11, 18 and 22. The inundation covered road surfaces, rendering small vehicles unable to travel, and spread to agricultural fields and residential areas. District Chief Chokchai Sansith and his administrative team surveyed the damage, discovering floodwater about 50 centimeters deep on the Kanchanaburi–Nong Phrao road at Ban Muang Tao and the approach to Nong Phrao Market, blocking all light traffic. In addition, the flood submerged village areas, particularly the local bridge, making motorcycle passage impossible. While the chief and officials were inspecting Nong Rang Bridge, a woman attempted to cross on her motorcycle but strong currents swept her and the bike off the bridge. Her body floated and snagged on a bamboo thicket in the creek, where administrative officers managed to pull her to safety, though the motorcycle was carried away by the water. Meanwhile, floodwaters began inundating homes in several villages, prompting officials and local administrative organizations to assist residents in moving belongings to higher ground to reduce damage. Officials warned that if no further rain fell, water levels would gradually recede over the next one to two days, returning conditions to normal.
