SEC and AMLO Probe Crypto Ties to Online Gambling Sites
Thailand's SEC and AMLO are investigating digital asset firms for possible links to online gambling wallets, emphasizing strict KYC/CDD checks and readiness to pursue legal action. The joint effort seeks to prevent money laundering and technology‑related crimes via cryptocurrency.
On October 15, 2026, the SEC and AMLO announced joint cooperation to examine digital asset operators for compliance with regulations, particularly concerning transactions that may relate to online gambling sites. The move follows social media reports of digital asset transfers between wallets associated with such gambling platforms and wallets of Thai digital asset businesses. The agencies will investigate under the Digital Asset Business Act and the Anti-Money Laundering Act, applying KYC (know‑your‑customer) and CDD (customer due diligence) rules, reviewing customer data, and requiring suspicious transaction reports (STRs). They also plan to enhance risk‑management systems to curb the use of digital assets for money laundering and tech‑based crime. SEC Secretary-General Pornonng Botsaratrakul said the SEC has long worked with the AMLO to supervise digital asset firms, enforcing KYC processes and upgrading fraud‑prevention tools using digital assets. She warned that any non‑compliant operator will face strict legal action. The SEC and AMLO are also implementing the Travel Rule, obliging businesses to use transaction‑analysis tools to verify wallet addresses; if a wallet is tied to illegal gambling or terrorism, firms must block it. AMLO Secretary-General Thepsub Borawichotidara added that businesses must report any suspicious transactions that could involve money laundering, predicate offenses, or terrorism financing to the AMLO for further action.
