Police and Military Clarify Gun Case Procedures
Police and military officials agreed to develop unified procedures for handling firearms during personnel transport after a ranger volunteer was charged with carrying a gun while traveling home.
Police and military officials held a joint meeting at Ingkhayuthborihaarn Camp in Pattani on July 17 to address the case of a ranger volunteer from the 48th Special Task Unit charged with carrying a firearm during travel home. Lt. Col. Sittisak Jenbajon, representing the Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 Forward, and Pol. Col. Surasak Sithiyai, representing the Royal Thai Police, agreed that all agencies acted within their legal authority, with police enforcing the law and military units managing personnel and security operations. Both sides affirmed their commitment to the justice process and said they would develop clear, unified procedures to ensure officials perform their duties correctly and efficiently. The meeting also recommended that relevant agencies jointly review regulations on armed personnel transport, improve documentation, coordination channels, and verification procedures to prevent errors and ensure clarity for all officials, while prioritizing legal compliance and public safety.
