Chachoengsao Removes 2 Tons of Invasive Fish Species
Chachoengsao authorities removed over 2 tons of invasive black-chin tilapia from Khlong Tamru canal in a coordinated effort to protect native fish populations and restore ecological balance in the waterway.
On July 17, 2025, Nathapong Warampatana from the Chachoengsao Provincial Fisheries Office, along with District Chief Worajak Sathapornphinyod, Thanawat Phavasuthee representing the Natural Resources and Environment Office, municipal staff from Tamru Subdistrict, village headmen, community leaders, and residents jointly conducted a catch of black-chin tilapia after the invasive species was found proliferating in Khlong Tamru canal in Muang Chachoengsao District. Through coordinated effort, officials successfully removed over 2,000 kilograms of the invasive fish from the waterway. This represents a significant achievement in reducing the volume of invasive aquatic species threatening the water resources and is part of efforts to restore ecological balance and minimize long-term impacts on native fish stocks and aquatic life. Black-chin tilapia is a fast-reproducing invasive species capable of damaging native aquatic populations and disrupting natural ecosystem balance. This removal operation exemplifies inter-agency cooperation aimed at controlling and reducing black-chin tilapia populations in the area, monitoring spread, and preventing the problem from expanding to other water sources. The goal is to restore Khlong Tamru and waterways throughout Chachoengsao Province to health and productivity as habitats for native aquatic species.
