Crime police launched a manhunt and arrested a 21-year-old man who had fled after repeatedly raping his 12-year-old stepdaughter for over a year. The mother was heartbroken; her daughter, once outgoing and cheerful, had become fearful of her stepfather, afraid of being harmed and unwilling to speak. Eventually she could no longer keep silent and told her mother, who then reported the abuse to police. On October 7, 2026, Pol. Lt. Gen. Phatthanakhod Bupphasuwan of the Crime Investigation Bureau ordered Pol. Col. Suriyayak Jirawat, commander of Division 3, and Pol. Lt. Ekasit Inthon-tho, together with officers from Unit 1 of Division 3, to apprehend Phongsapich (surname withheld), 21, who was subject to an arrest warrant issued by the Thanyaburi Provincial Court (Case No. 941/2569) dated September 14, 2026. He was arrested at his home in Nadie Subdistrict, Na Yia District, Ubon Ratchathani Province. The investigation began last September when the victim’s mother, identified only as 'A', age 12, filed a complaint with Lam Luk Ka police station in Pathum Thani after noticing her daughter’s behavior had changed—she was no longer bright and cheerful and appeared frightened whenever her stepfather entered the room. The girl eventually disclosed that her stepfather had sexually assaulted and molested her, fearing she would be harmed after witnessing him attack others. The abuse reportedly started around June 2025 and continued frequently at night. Police sent the girl for a medical examination and gathered evidence, but the suspect learned of the investigation and fled. Officers from Division 3 tracked him to Ubon Ratchathani Province and arrested him. He confessed, leading to charges of rape by threat and use of force against a person unable to resist. He has been handed over to Luk Luk Ka police station for further legal proceedings.
