Police are questioning the girlfriend of Noprat, known as Bangsan (name withheld), 23, who shot and killed Phochai (name withheld), 27, at a funeral for Phochai's girlfriend at Bung Thong Luang Temple in Bang Kapi district, Bangkok. After the shooting, Bangsan fled to a hotel room in Kannayao district with his girlfriend before taking his own life while surrounded by police.

On August 2, 2569, Pol. Col. Thanapan, commander of Ladphrao Police Station, confirmed that Bangsan shot himself while being surrounded by officers and was rushed to hospital in the early morning hours. He was pronounced dead at 3:45 a.m.

Investigators are sending the seized firearm to the police forensics unit to determine whether it is the same weapon used to kill Phochai at the temple. Police also plan to summon Bangsan's girlfriend, who was with him in the hotel room, for questioning and will test her for drug use as part of the investigation.

Police have already interviewed the girlfriend at Kannayao Police Station regarding Bangsan's act of self-harm before releasing her. The Ladphrao Police Station is handling the investigation into the temple shooting and any drug involvement.

Investigators are focusing on two main lines of inquiry: tracing the origin of the firearm and determining whether drugs were involved in the case. Regarding motive, police are emphasizing a revenge angle stemming from the death of Bangsan's close friend, Phochai's girlfriend, who died from a gunshot wound. Multiple prominent temple monks have allegedly hired male entertainers to provide services at their quarters, invited fellow monks to parties, and driven luxury private vehicles while coordinating meetups across temples. Officials have called for an end to the behavior, with some entertainers fearing HIV infection and requesting monks undergo blood tests before intimate contact, with parties requiring proof of negative test results.

A former Chiang Mai district chief has now revealed that one monk has been collecting secrets about monastic misconduct—including wrongdoings by district abbot leaders and temple abbots across Chiang Mai. This monk has repeatedly abused his position and claims to have played a role in securing important ecclesiastical appointments. The former chief stated: "I can confirm that apart from hoarding secrets about monks' various wrongdoings across Chiang Mai, this monk has demanded money from an abbot, receiving as much as 100,000 baht recently."

The monk allegedly offers various justifications: payment can secure promotion from abbot to sub-district ecclesiastical leader or district leader. Some monks are appointed to temples lacking resident monks, while inviting the monk to events commands fees ranging from 10,000 to 100,000 baht depending on temple size. Without payment, he allegedly threatens to have positions reassigned to other monks.

Before collecting money, the monk's team scouts temples by size—small, medium, or large. Larger, ornate temples are charged higher amounts. However, even medium or small temples with wealthy, prominent patrons or well-known political donors can be charged 10,000 to 100,000 baht or more. Chiang Mai's monastic community has long been aware of these problems, which have persisted for months, with additional issues still being documented. The former chief said.

Reporters have gathered extensive evidence regarding the Chiang Mai monastic misconduct, including monks hiring entertainers for temple parties. Authorities are expected to pursue charges. Regarding the extortion monk collecting money for maintaining ecclesiastical positions, key figures such as the former Chiang Mai district chief have come forward confirming misconduct has occurred.

On August 2, authorities reported a serious assault in Chiang Mai province in which a gang of motorcycle riders attacked a cannabis shop worker in the city center, ordering him to crawl and grovel before kicking him in the jaw and beating him. The gang reportedly had subordinates record the incident. Police from Chang Phueak Station have now arrested two suspects believed to be the main perpetrators and filed three serious charges, while urgently pursuing other gang members involved to press charges.

The incident occurred on July 31 at approximately 11:14 p.m. inside a cannabis shop in Chang Phueak subdistrict, Mueang district, Chiang Mai. A group of five to six assailants brutally attacked a male employee, leaving him with severe injuries, a swollen head, and bleeding. Investigation revealed that the gang leader forced the victim to kneel and crawl to grovel at their feet. Despite the victim raising his hands in plea for mercy and apologizing throughout, he was kicked in the jaw and beaten repeatedly and savagely.

Footage shows a biker gang member wearing a Harley-Davidson group shirt forcing the injured victim to crawl on his knees to apologize. The victim complied with an apology while trembling in fear. After crawling to the gang leader's feet and bowing as threatened, the victim was kicked in the jaw and struck and beaten against the pavement multiple times. Security camera audio from nearby captured the perpetrator shouting, "You're playing around with my girl—you dare mess with someone else's woman?" which is believed to have been the motive for the assault.

After the attack, the gang removed the memory card from the shop's security camera in an attempt to destroy evidence. However, police were able to investigate using footage from surrounding security cameras and identify the perpetrators. On the evening of August 1, the Chang Phueak Station investigation team arrested two main suspects and brought them in for interrogation and legal proceedings. The suspects were charged with three counts: jointly committing assault causing bodily harm with premeditation; jointly stealing property at night by removing the security camera memory card; and jointly coercing someone by threat of harm to life, body, or liberty. Police are actively pursuing all remaining gang members to press full charges.

A 29-year-old southern Thai musician and music video actor died early on August 1st after his motorcycle fell into a large open drainage ditch on a road near Tha Thon Temple in Bang Klam District, Songkhla Province. Police and rescue workers from the Mitrapap Samakkhi Foundation in Haad Yai found the victim, Waiyathaya (nickname Ann), lying face-down with his head submerged in water, and his overturned motorcycle in the ditch. The body was taken to Haad Yai Hospital for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Friends and relatives gathered at the accident site that night to seek justice, believing the incident was caused by careless construction work and the complete absence of warning signs or protective barriers. Sataphorn, a close friend of the victim, stated: "The accident location is extremely dangerous with no advance warning signs, insufficient lighting, and no metal covers over the dug ditch. Someone on a motorcycle has been injured falling into this hole before. We want the contractor to take responsibility, and this tragedy should serve as a warning to improve construction site safety."

The victim was described as hardworking and talented, performing as a southern Thai musician and music video actor. He supported his family—including his 3-year-old son—by working multiple jobs including construction labor and food delivery. His 70-year-old grandmother, Phontip, tearfully recounted that the boy's parents had separated and his mother lives abroad. She recalled that just before the accident, her grandson had mentioned not working with her on Saturday due to a Buddhist ordination ceremony he planned to attend. "I never imagined those words were an omen of something tragic," she said, adding that her great-grandson is now left without a father.
