Police Bust Fake Father Scheme, Arrest Chinese Parents
Police arrested four suspects running a scheme that hired Thai men to fraudulently claim paternity over children of Chinese nationals, enabling illegal birth registrations in Thailand.
On July 12, 2025, police conducted a major crackdown on a network facilitating illegal child registrations. Investigators arrested four suspects: Chinese nationals Zhao Z., 30, and Zhuang Z., 30, the biological parents of a child, along with Thai nationals Suk, 43, and Chatchawal, 54, who were hired to pose as the child's father—known locally as a "surrogate father"—to register false paternity documents.
The investigation revealed an organized operation recruiting Thai men to fraudulently claim paternity over children of Chinese nationals, allowing illegal birth registration without biological relationship. In the first case, Suk was hired to sign false paternity acknowledgment papers on behalf of the Chinese couple. Police tracked and arrested Zhao Z. and Zhuang Z. at a residence in Nonthaburi province, and apprehended Suk in the Saphan Suea area of Bangkok. Both were transferred to Bang Yai Police Station for legal proceedings.
Chatchawal, implicated in a similar case, was arrested at a residence in Samut Prakan under a Bangkok Criminal Court warrant dated July 10, 2025, and similarly transferred for prosecution. All suspects face charges of supporting officials in misconduct, abuse of authority, and corruption. Authorities are pursuing additional suspects including brokers, recruiters, and other network members to dismantle the entire operation.
