Argentina's World Cup Prize Money Diverted To Mystery Company

Media reports indicate that Argentina's 2022 FIFA World Cup championship prize money of 42 million euros—part of approximately 300 million euros in total winnings—was transferred to a company with no connection to football.

Previously, Yahoo reported that the Argentine Football Association (AFA) is under investigation by the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and U.S. federal prosecutors for allegations of money laundering and financial misconduct.

Recently, prominent journalist Romang Molina revealed that just nine days before the final match where Argentina defeated France, a contract was signed allocating 30% of the AFA's World Cup revenues to a company named TourProt Entertainment.

Following Argentina's world championship victory, FIFA transferred 42 of the 300 million euros directly to that company. Investigations have indicated the company has no connection to football whatsoever.

Nevertheless, these allegations have only been publicized through Molina's reporting and have not yet been confirmed by any legal ruling.

FIFA Referee Chief Denies World Cup Decisions Face Pressure

Pierluigi Collina, head of FIFA's refereeing division, has firmly denied that referees at the 2026 World Cup face any external pressure or influence in their decision-making, regardless of who is involved. Heavy criticism has previously surrounded refereeing decisions at this World Cup, particularly in the Round of 16 match where defending champion Argentina narrowly beat Egypt 3-2, with allegations of bias favoring Argentina. Additionally, FIFA President Gianni Infantino's influence came under scrutiny in the case of American forward Folarin Balogun, who received a red card and later had his one-year suspension overturned, with Infantino admitting he had spoken with U.S. President Donald Trump about the matter. In his latest statement, Collina said: "No one should question the integrity of World Cup referees. When such incidents occur, it could lead to threats against officials or their families. Similarly, no one can claim that decisions result from anyone's influence—not even the FIFA President."

The BBC reports that FIFA's disciplinary committee chairman declined to answer journalists' questions regarding England defender Jarrell Quansah's two-match suspension. Quansah received a red card in England's 3-2 Round of 16 victory over co-hosts Mexico, after which England appealed the ban following the case of US forward Folarin Balogun, who received a one-year suspension. FIFA subsequently upheld Quansah's two-match ban, sparking further criticism including from England manager Thomas Tuchel, who stated he has received no explanation for the punishment. Most recently, BBC editor Dan Roan confronted FIFA disciplinary chairman Mohammad Al Kamali with questions about both Quansah and Balogun's cases, but Al Kamali provided no answers. FIFA previously issued an 871-word statement on Balogun's ruling, emphasizing that the decision was made after considering all relevant circumstances and evidence, though it declined to specify what factors were actually considered.

Linda Noskovà captured her first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon 2026 after defeating fellow Czech player Carolina Mukovà in the women's singles final.

The Wimbledon 2026 tournament, the third Grand Slam event of the year, took place in London on July 11. The women's singles final featured a battle between two Czech tennis players: Linda Noskovà faced Carolina Mukovà.

Noskovà, 21, was seeded ninth and was making her first Grand Slam final appearance. Mukovà, 29, was seeded tenth and had achieved her best Grand Slam result by reaching the runner-up position at the 2023 French Open.

In the first set, Noskovà displayed superior form, holding her serve firmly and preventing any breaks before winning 6-2 to take a 1-0 set lead.

In the second set, Noskovà continued to play well and led 5-2, appearing on track for the title. However, Mukovà mounted a comeback, winning five consecutive games and capturing the set 7-5 to level the match at 1-1.

In the decisive third set, Noskovà returned to excellent play, holding all her service games and breaking Mukovà's serve once before winning 6-3. Noskovà claimed victory 2-1 in sets with a final score of 6-2, 5-7, 6-3, with the match lasting 2 hours and 28 minutes.

Noskovà thus claimed her first Grand Slam title in her career and received prize money of 3.6 million pounds. Mukovà received 1.8 million pounds as the runner-up and continues to wait for her first Grand Slam championship.

Additionally, Noskovà became the third female tennis player from the Czech Republic to win Wimbledon in the past four years, following Marketa Vondrousovà in 2023 and Barbora Krejcikova in 2024.

Unlicensed Pub Facing Five-Year Closure Order

An unlicensed pub in Buriram's Nang Rong District faces a five-year closure order after authorities found it operating illegally, serving alcohol past permitted hours, and admitting minors during a drug suppression raid.

On July 11, Buriram Governor Pinya Pitnam ordered a special enforcement team led by Nurichit Rungsila, Buriram Province Deputy Governor, to conduct a raid on an entertainment venue in Nang Rong District as part of Operation 90 Days, a drug suppression initiative. The operation followed public complaints that the establishment was operating illegally, serving alcohol beyond permitted hours, and admitting minors.

During the inspection, officials found numerous tourists using the venue while live music performed and alcoholic beverages were sold. Investigators confirmed the establishment lacked proper operating licenses, exceeded legal service hours, and had admitted nine patrons under 20 years old. Staff found no illegal substances during drug testing of employees and customers.

Authorities arrested the venue manager on charges including operating without proper authorization, selling alcohol beyond legal hours, selling alcohol to minors, endangering youth through improper conduct, and unlawful alcohol advertising. The establishment also violated National Council for Peace and Order Announcement 22/2558 issued July 22, 2015. Officials are now forwarding the case to the provincial governor to formally order a five-year closure of the venue.

Furniture Warehouse Fire Destroys Business, Damages Adjacent Shop

A furniture warehouse in Pathum Thani province caught fire on July 11, destroying the business and damaging an adjacent shop before firefighters contained the blaze after more than an hour of effort.

Furniture Warehouse Fire Destroys Business, Damages Adjacent Shop
17h ago Khaosod

Emergency responders received a call at 9:20 p.m. on July 11 about a fire at an unmarked furniture manufacturing warehouse and secondhand shop on Soi Khlong Jet Road in Lam Luk Ka subdistrict, Pathum Thani province. Deputy investigator Malanratana Srikaew from Lam Luk Ka Police Station coordinated eight fire trucks from local tambon administrations and the Lad Sawai municipality, along with volunteer rescue teams and charity organization staff.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered the furniture warehouse fully engulfed in flames. The fire spread rapidly due to abundant combustible materials inside—wooden furniture components, wood scraps, oil, and thinner—making firefighting efforts extremely challenging. The blaze jumped to the adjacent secondhand shop before firefighters managed to contain and extinguish it after more than one hour of continuous water spraying.

The warehouse owner, Sorpong (surname withheld), 46, explained that he leases the space for general contracting work including furniture manufacturing and event setup services. He had closed the warehouse after work with no staff remaining inside. The fire's origin appears to have started within the warehouse. Sorpong was eating when staff alerted him to the flames that had already engulfed the building. The lost inventory consisted of furniture and materials intended for an upcoming event job, representing substantial losses. Fortunately, firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to vehicles parked behind the warehouse.
