During one search in a warehouse in Soi Phra Phutthisai Chaiyo, Tambon Nong Ja Bok, Muang District, Nakhon Ratchasima, officers arrested a suspect managing the location. The search uncovered approximately 648 e-cigarette units of various types valued at over 100,000 baht, along with mobile phones used to solicit orders. The suspect was transferred to Phothigang Police Station for prosecution under the Customs Act B.E. 2560 and the Consumer Protection Act B.E. 2522. Natural Resources and Environment Minister Suchat Chomklin announced on July 10 that authorities had arrested a timber smuggling operation on the Asian Highway in Nakhon Sawan province while the convoy was en route to Bangkok. He ordered Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plants Director-General Arthapol Jarachansai to escalate investigations to dismantle the international criminal network behind the illegal timber trade. Suchat stressed maximum enforcement and prosecution without exception to recover Thailand's forest resources.

Arthapol revealed that the arrest followed intelligence from Chaichanya Sriyang, chairman of the task force investigating cross-border timber trafficking. Officials from the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plants coordinated closely with the special investigation division (DSI) and the natural resources enforcement unit (DNRE). After extended surveillance, they confirmed the criminal gang illegally harvested valuable timber from protected forests and national reserves, processed it, and transported it via large trucks for resale. Once movement patterns were confirmed, authorities coordinated with highway police to set an ambush on the Asian Highway in Nakhon Sawan province, successfully intercepting the target vehicles.

Investigators arrested four suspects and seized a six-wheel truck registered in Tak province (used to haul the illegal logs) and a four-door pickup registered in Nong Khai (used for navigation and scouting checkpoints). All four suspects confessed that the timber had been illegally cut and transported from Mae Sot district in Tak province, destined for a warehouse in the central region for storage before laundering and export. The suspects and seized materials were handed over to Phu Khiao Police Station in Nakhon Sawan for processing and legal action. Authorities are conducting thorough investigations and will report progress to supervisors immediately.

Deputy Interior Minister Jetsada Thaiset has ordered the Bangkok Water Authority (MWA) to fully escalate preparedness for potential situations in the Wangwian Yai area, directing all operational units to prepare emergency response plans, personnel, and resources on a round-the-clock basis to assist residents immediately if land subsidence damages main pipelines and the water distribution system.

The MWA has prepared water trucks to respond 24 hours a day across both the Wangwian Yai area and branch locations, while coordinating with private water truck operators in the area to provide immediate support if needed. The authority has also arranged cold drinking water trucks at the command center to serve staff and residents, and has prepared operational teams for production and distribution systems with full equipment and personnel ready to execute emergency protocols immediately.

Major water customers who may be affected by potential supply disruptions have been instructed to keep their water storage tanks at full capacity to manage any emergency situations. Thaiset emphasized that the Interior Ministry follows a principle of preparation before crisis occurs, as effective disaster management requires minimizing impacts on residents. He directed all units to closely monitor the situation, coordinate work around the clock, and maintain full readiness to ensure continuous water service and rapid assistance if circumstances change.

Thaiset stated he will visit the affected area this evening with Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and the Deputy Interior Minister to monitor the situation and closely oversee the work of all relevant agencies, while ordering full coordination among all units to give residents confidence and ensure swift and efficient assistance.

Revered Buddhist Amulets Remain Popular Among Collectors

Revered Buddhist amulets from respected monks like Luang Por Hong and Luang Pu Suk remain highly sought by collectors, with the oldest examples dating back to 1922 and featuring intricate metalwork and sacred inscriptions.

Revered Buddhist Amulets Remain Popular Among Collectors
2h ago Khaosod

The article details the spiritual teachings of various respected monks and describes several significant Buddhist amulets in depth. Luang Por Hong from Wat Chong Lom in Ratchaburi was a historically revered monk whose amulets gained widespread popularity. In 1922, his disciples were permitted to create both cast and stamped coins featuring him in meditation posture, with Thai characters "ว. ช. ล." (Wat Chong Lom) and Khmer script on the reverse. These are among the oldest stamped coins in Ratchaburi province, made from mixed metal with yellowish-green and reddish-yellow hues. In 1993, teachers and administrators from Chainat Phittayakom School created silver-glazed amulets of Luang Pu Suk, a highly learned monk. These oval coins featured a half-relief image with Khmer inscriptions and Thai lettering "พระครูวิมลคุณากร (ศุข)" and the year 2536. The coins were blessed on March 26, 1993 by Somdet Phra Sangkharat and underwent a full Buddhist consecration ceremony on April 12, 1993 with 28 senior monks present at Srivichai Wattanaram Temple in Chainat. Another notable amulet was created in 1973 by Wat Geai Chai Nuea in Nakhon Sawan to commemorate Luang Pu Yiem's 60th birthday and his elevation in monastic rank. These amulets feature distinctive characteristics such as specialized markings, glazing, and sacred yantra symbols.

Sacred Buddha Image Attracts Devotees Seeking Swift Blessings

Sacred Buddha Image Attracts Devotees Seeking Swift Blessings
2h ago Khaosod

Phra Chao Tan Jai, or Luang Por Tan Jai, at Wat Phra Brom Thad Ban Tak in Ban Tak District, Tak Province, is a sacred Buddha image greatly revered by devotees who visit to seek blessings. Believers hold that "whatever is requested is typically granted with remarkable speed," truly befitting the image's name.

The tradition of creating Phra Chao Tan Jai images dates back centuries and is found in many important temples throughout northern and northeastern Thailand. The defining belief is that the image must be completed within a single day—beginning after 6 PM and finished before sunset (6 PM) the following day. If construction is not completed within this timeframe, it is considered an ordinary Buddha image. Since typical Buddha image creation involves elaborate and complex procedures, completing both the sculpture and consecration ceremony within 24 hours is considered miraculous. Believers attribute this to the divine power and sacred blessings that respond to the sincere devotion and unity of the faithful, allowing all rituals to proceed without obstruction.

Another crucial aspect of creating Phra Chao Tan Jai is the insertion of a "heart of the lord," similar to a human heart, along with various auspicious objects and valuables within the Buddha image. Throughout the sculpting period, monks must chant Buddhist mantras continuously through the night until dawn. Through these elaborate steps and rituals completed in one day, the Buddha image embodies holiness and sacred power, granting blessings to supplicants with remarkable swiftness.

This ancient sacred Buddha image is deeply revered by residents of Tak city and neighboring provinces, enshrined in the old chapel of Wat Phra Brom Thad Ban Tak, a historically significant temple. The site was the original location of old Tak city, which has a long history dating back to the time of Queen Chamadevi, before the city was relocated to the current Rang district. According to inscriptions of King Ramkhamhaeng, he won a military elephant battle against the Lord of Chod on a hill near this pagoda.

Importantly, this temple also houses Buddha relics, according to a legend written in northern dialect by King Lieo Lok: The Buddha journeyed along the Ping River and arrived at Doi Mahiyangka within the Tak city area, telling Ananda that this was a pleasant and beautiful place. If the Buddha were to pass into Nirvana, his bones and hair should be brought back to this hill. After the Buddha's Parinirvana, four Arahants brought his relics, along with four more strands of hair, to Doi Mahiyangka and built a square stupa to contain them, serving as a place of worship for all humans and devas.

Later, Phra Kru Phituk Phra Brom Thad (Thong Yu) traveled to worship the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon, Myanmar, and brought back designs to construct a covering for the original stupa, embellishing it with beautiful gold leaf. This is considered the pagoda of the year of the Rat.

Phra Chao Tan Jai is a brick and mortar Buddha image finished with gold leaf in the Mara Vijaya pose, measuring 32 inches across the chest. According to tradition, Phra Chao Tan Jai, regardless of materials used, must be completed within one night, representing the exceptional faith of local Buddhists. As the current abbot, Phra Kru Phituk Brom Thad (Pan), has noted, the creation of this image demonstrates the sincere devotion of the community who came together in white robes to participate in its construction.

Bangkok Governor Monitors Purple Line Tunnel Water Leak

Bangkok Governor Monitors Purple Line Tunnel Water Leak
2h ago Khaosod

Governor Chatcai inspected the Purple Line tunnel water leak near Victory Monument after authorities ordered the evacuation of buildings within a 30-meter radius. Most residents have evacuated the area while officials maintain perimeter closures and continuous 24-hour monitoring of structural subsidence and building integrity.

The water leak incident along the Purple Line tunnel between Tao Pun and Ratchadamnoen stations (Purple Line South) near Victory Monument station occurred on July 9. Residents and business operators within the 30-meter radius were ordered to evacuate immediately for safety.

As of July 10, officials have sealed the area for public safety, including closing the overpass that operated the previous day due to its proximity to the incident site. A survey found that most residences and shops in the area have closed with no residents or operators remaining in buildings. Most residents have evacuated, though some remained inside structures. Officials continue monitoring building conditions, measuring subsidence levels, and detecting vibrations and building tilt around the clock using "ScopeEye" equipment installed by the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) in coordination with USAR Thailand.

Traffic has been rerouted from the incident area with detours established at the Ban Khek intersection, causing significant vehicle accumulation and traffic slowdown. Traffic around Victory Monument continues to flow, though with some delays managed by traffic police from Buppharam station.

A command center and complaint hotline have been established on the island at the center of Victory Monument near the Taksin the Great monument, staffed by relevant agencies including DDPM, municipal officials, and UNIQUE company.

Governor Chatcai Sittiphan, accompanied by Detchathorn Saengamnaj (Thonburi district manager) and Deputy Colonel Phuwadol Oomphot (Buppharam police chief), visited the site to assess the situation. He consulted with relevant agencies about current conditions, traffic impacts from the road closure, and addressed local residents with apologies for their inconvenience.

Governor Chatcai reported that ground subsidence near the Purple Line tunnel has stabilized, with subsidence nearly halted and no new structural cracks observed. He acknowledged that monitoring equipment still shows minor subsidence but within manageable levels. He urged residents to avoid the incident area due to the traffic closure.

Based on observations of the external area, particularly the central pillars of the overpass, subsidence has nearly stopped with no alarming signs compared to the previous day. However, residents must remain evacuated for safety precautions.

Today will include another progress assessment after contractors completed extensive grouting to reinforce the underlying soil layers. Preliminary assessment indicates the subsidence situation is under control.

Book Review: "Buddhist Biography From Buddha's Own Words" Author: Bhikkhu Buddhadasa Published by: Thammasopa Publishing House Price: 400 baht

"Buddhist Biography From Buddha's Own Words" stands as a masterwork by Bhikkhu Buddhadasa (part of the Dharma Proclamation series). This book invites readers to trace the Buddha's life through "his own words" without fictional additions or miracles obscuring the essential truth. It emphasizes practical living, ways of facing the world, and the path to ending suffering, spanning from his birth through his enlightenment, dharma teachings, to his parinirvana.

The book is structured around four key sections: the Buddha's arising (describing his determination, principles, and life's beginning); his quest and enlightenment (his struggles and discovery of the Four Noble Truths); his religious proclamation (methods of teaching to kings, brahmins, and common people); and his parinirvana (final events and teachings).

What makes this volume exceptional is that it compiles the Buddha's biography using only his actual words from the Pali Canon's Suttas and Vinaya sections, allowing readers to learn directly from the Buddha himself. The book contains 724 pages with durable binding suitable for collection or as a gift.

The Buddha was not a supernatural deity but an "awakened human." This book demonstrates how he lived with understanding of suffering and transformed it into wisdom's light. Bhikkhu Buddhadasa's elegant presentation shows that we too can awaken as the Buddha did.

Chinese Man Shocked After 12 Teeth Extracted for Single Toothache

Chinese Man Shocked After 12 Teeth Extracted for Single Toothache
2h ago Khaosod

A 63-year-old Chinese man faced a shocking ordeal after visiting a dental clinic for a single toothache, only to have all 12 remaining teeth extracted and 10 dental implants installed in a single treatment session. Chinese health authorities subsequently penalized the clinic, ordering it to refund treatment costs and cease operations for improvements after discovering multiple violations of professional standards.

The patient, surnamed Li, from Baoji city in Shaanxi Province, decided to seek treatment at the clinic in September after being swayed by advertisements promising "dental implants in the morning, eating meat by afternoon" and "complete teeth for a lifespan over 100 years." The clinic also offered free transportation and complimentary oral health examinations, gaining his trust.

However, the outcome proved devastating. Li had all 12 remaining teeth extracted and 10 dental implants placed during a single treatment, with the clinic charging approximately 18,800 yuan (about 88,000 baht) from his bank account and digital wallet, with an additional 6,200 yuan (roughly 30,500 baht) still outstanding. When his son found him afterward, Li's mouth was bleeding and he had only 30 yuan (approximately 150 baht) remaining for transportation home.

The situation was further complicated by Li's multiple chronic conditions, including coronary heart disease, a history of heart muscle death, diabetes, high blood pressure, and four cardiac stents—conditions requiring careful evaluation before dental extraction or implant procedures. In some cases, such procedures should not be performed immediately.

Dr. Fu Dongjie, an oral surgery specialist from Renmin Hospital at Wuhan University, noted that diabetic patients should have their blood sugar levels controlled within acceptable ranges before undergoing dental implant placement. Additionally, extracting and implanting multiple teeth simultaneously carries significant risk. A previous 2024 case documented a Chinese man who died within 13 days after having 23 teeth extracted and 12 implants placed in a single treatment.

After Li's family filed complaints with local health authorities three times, inspectors discovered the clinic's medical records were incomplete, with missing documents sometimes miraculously appearing later—raising suspicions of document tampering. The records even listed Li's gender as female despite him being male, and a required cardiology consultation report was only provided six months after the procedure.

Li's son questioned whether a proper cardiology consultation had actually been conducted and why the family was never informed. He viewed the clinic's actions as unacceptable for a patient with multiple chronic conditions.

Following the investigation, local health authorities determined the clinic violated multiple professional standards, including inadequate pre-operative assessments and failure to follow proper protocols for high-risk patients.

BANGKOK — Thai customs officials have arrested a foreign transit passenger after seizing 17.53 kilograms of heroin concealed inside food and dietary supplement packaging at Suvarnabhumi Airport, preventing the drugs from reaching their final destination in Madagascar.

The seizure was announced on 9 July by the Customs Department, whose Investigation and Suppression Bureau worked alongside the Airport Interdiction Task Force (AITF) after identifying a high-risk passenger suspected of smuggling narcotics.

According to authorities, the suspect had travelled from Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Malaysia and was transiting through Suvarnabhumi Airport before continuing to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, en route to Ivato International Airport in Madagascar.

Customs officers divided into two teams. One team inspected the traveller's checked baggage at the transit passenger baggage handling facility after X-ray screening revealed suspicious objects inside the luggage. The second team intercepted the passenger at the boarding gate and escorted him, together with the luggage, for a detailed inspection.

The search uncovered coffee bags, green tea packets and dietary supplement packages from various brands concealing plastic bags filled with clumped white powder. A chemical test confirmed the substance was heroin.

Authorities seized a total of 17.53 kilograms of heroin, with an estimated street value of 7.3 million baht.

The suspect was taken into custody and handed over to investigators for legal proceedings, while authorities continue expanding the investigation to identify accomplices in the trafficking network both in Thailand and overseas.

The Director-General of the Customs Department said the arrest demonstrated the effectiveness of the department's risk analysis system and close cooperation among enforcement agencies in preventing Thailand from being used as a transit hub for international drug trafficking. He reaffirmed the department's commitment to protecting society from the threat of illicit narcotics.
