Police Find Nearly 300kg Ice in Chiang Mai Dorm
Chiang Mai police raided a dormitory in San Sai and seized nearly 300 kilograms of ice methamphetamine hidden in plastic boxes. The Myanmar national who rented the room, identified as Mr. Chai, fled before the operation and is now being pursued. Authorities say the suspect acted as a middleman, storing drugs from northern border smugglers for onward transport to Bangkok, and they aim to dismantle the entire network.
On October 10, 2569 BE, Pol. Lt. Gen. Prachaya Prasansuk ordered Pol. Maj. Gen. Phongsakorn Rassamirojkul and Pol. Col. Takisin Chanthawong to lead a team from Region 5 Investigative Police to surround and search a dormitory near Mae Kao Temple in San Sai District. Officers found about 287 kilograms of ice hidden in plastic boxes in a second‑floor room and seized the narcotics. The dormitory owner said the room was rented by a Myanmar man, Mr. Chai, who had already escaped. Investigators are pursuing Mr. Chai and plan to expand the case to identify the drug source and any accomplices, with the suspect expected to be apprehended soon.
