Police Hunt Gold Robber Who Stole 3.5 Million Baht in Two Minutes

Police are actively investigating the armed robbery at a Bangkok Gold branch in Samkok district, Pathum Thani province, where a lone gunman stole 52 baht of gold jewelry worth 3.5 million baht in just two minutes on September 13 afternoon. Deputy Police Region 1 commander Wichit Boonchinwuttikul held a coordination meeting on September 14 with provincial and district police to accelerate the investigation.

Based on closed-circuit camera footage, officers observed the suspect loitering outside the shop before the robbery. After the theft, he walked along the roadside, hired a motorcycle taxi to the Lotus mall in Pathum Thani province, then switched to a regular taxi heading toward the Thammasat University area in Khlong Luang. Investigators are tracking the escape route through multiple camera recordings and pursuing witness leads and descriptions of the stolen gold. Police noted that the suspect has distinctive freckle-like markings on both sides of his face, which will be used in tracking efforts.

Police are appealing to the public: if anyone spots a person matching the description or encounters gold ornaments with the same characteristics as the stolen items being offered for sale or pawn, they should immediately report it to police to speed up the arrest and prosecution. Deputy Commander Wichit explained that while the gold shop had good security systems including automatic doors, staff had deactivated the system during a busy delivery period when the suspect was watching and waiting for the right moment to strike.
