Police Hunt Mule Accounts After Actress Scammed in Online Fraud
Actress Noey Paphada lost over 200,000 baht after being duped by an online second-hand goods scam that used fake buyers and mule accounts. Police said the scheme is a known pattern used by a scam gang to trick sellers into paying fees. Authorities are now hunting the mule bank accounts used to receive the transfers.
On 12 October 2069, Pol. Maj. Gen. Sirivat Deeppor disclosed that the incident is part of a continuing scam operation. The gang opens a page for buying used goods; when someone posts an item to sell, they are invited to chat privately on LINE, then added to an open chat group where gang members pose as buyers. The group convinces the victim that a sale is real, then demands payment of fees and registration costs via bank transfer. After the initial payment, the gang continues to ask for more money until the victim loses a large sum. Police have filed a case against the fraudsters who posed as an online shop, and are investigating the mule accounts used to receive the transferred funds.
