Police Launch Nationwide 'Spider Web' Checkpoints to Curb Crime
Pol Lt Gen Triarong Phuiphan launched a nationwide 'spider web' checkpoint network to curb crime, drugs, firearms and vice. In one week of night‑time operations, police arrested 719 suspects and seized large quantities of narcotics, weapons and explosives. Provincial chiefs were ordered to maintain the checkpoints and strictly enforce bans on illegal activities in entertainment venues.
Pol Lt Gen Triarong Phuiphan announced that every police unit would establish spider‑web checkpoints, mobile interception points, sealed‑off zones and conduct show‑of‑force operations based on local crime analysis. Results are to be logged in the Police 4.0 and TPCC systems for monitoring and evaluation. The initiative also reinforces the Strong Crime Prevention Project and the Six‑Man Team special units stationed at each police station. In the past week, night‑time spider‑web checkpoints across the country led to the arrest of 719 suspects and the seizure of 285,224 methamphetamine tablets, 76.78 grams of ice, heroin, ketamine, 24 firearms, 65 rounds of ammunition, 29 knives and two explosive devices. Provincial police chiefs were ordered to set up checkpoints according to crime‑pattern analysis and to strictly enforce bans on drug and firearm offences in entertainment venues, prohibiting anyone under 20 from using such services. The public can report tips via the 191 or 1599 hotlines, available 24 hours a day.
