Police Nab Chinese Drug Smuggler Wanted for Dubai Triple Murder
Thai immigration police in Nong Khai arrested a 29-year-old Chinese man, Wan Chuanxin, as he attempted to cross the Mekong River from Laos with 5 kilograms of etomidate, a controlled drug precursor. A background check revealed he is also wanted by the United Arab Emirates for a triple murder in Dubai last June. The suspect will be extradited to the UAE to face those charges.
Nong Khai - On November 4, 2026, Pol. Maj. Gen. Noppasil Poolsawat, Deputy Commissioner of the Immigration Bureau, and Pol. Col. Pirach Phukcharoen, Commander of Immigration Division 4, oversaw operations by immigration officers in Division 4. Pol. Lt. Col. Thiyaphaphat Rongsi Phrahmankun, Deputy Chief of Nong Khai Immigration, reported a major case resulting from an operation on October 6. Nong Khai immigration officers, joined by soldiers from the 2107th and 21st Ranger Companies of the Surasakmontri Force in Ponpisai district, arrested Mr. Wan Chuanxin, a 29-year-old Chinese national, while he was crossing the Mekong River from Laos on a long-tail boat to the Ponpisai area. He was carrying a bag containing five packages of suspicious white powder weighing 5 kilograms. Testing confirmed the substance was etomidate, a Category 2 narcotic precursor used to manufacture drugs such as zombie drugs, pot tea, and happy water. The suspect was initially charged with illegal entry and possession of a Category 2 narcotic precursor without permission. Further investigation revealed he is the subject of an arrest warrant from the United Arab Emirates for involvement in a triple homicide in Dubai in June 2026. Travel records show he moved between Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, and the UAE before residing in Laos and attempting to cross illegally into Thailand via the Mekong. Immigration authorities will hand him over to the UAE to face prosecution for the triple murder case.
