Police Say Italian Tourists Can Face Charges for BTS Insult
25 Jul Khaosod

Police say Italian tourists can be prosecuted for making obscene gestures at Thai passengers on the BTS, as a viral video sparked heated online debate over the incident's appropriateness and whether victims could pursue legal action. Deputy National Police Chief Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong Phiwpharn stated on July 25 that if victims believe the tourists' conduct constitutes insult, discrimination, or violation of human dignity, they may file a complaint and pursue legal proceedings under Thai law, since the incident occurred within Thai territory and applies equally to foreigners and Thai nationals alike. The loud behavior on the public BTS system could also violate service regulations or related laws; the video and photos circulating on social media serve as key evidence that authorities can use in case proceedings, while visa cancellation decisions rest with immigration authorities if they find the tourists' conduct meets legal criteria. Police Lt. Gen. Trairong advised the public to remain calm, avoid confrontation, prioritize safety, and gather evidence before reporting such incidents to authorities for proper legal action.

UNESCO has unanimously approved registering Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahaviharn in Nakhon Si Thammarat as a World Heritage Site, with the announcement made at 2:55 p.m. on July 25, 2026. Natural Resources and Environment Minister Suchart Chomklin, heading Thailand's delegation, attended the 48th ordinary session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Busan, South Korea, alongside Culture Minister Sabida Taiyaseth and representatives from the Fine Arts Department, foreign ministry, education ministry, and Nakhon Si Thammarat province.

Minister Suchart stated that the committee's unanimous decision represents a significant achievement for Thailand, demonstrating the commitment of the Culture Ministry, Natural Resources and Environment Ministry, and all relevant agencies to preserving, protecting, and promoting the nation's cultural heritage on the international stage.

Following this success, the Culture Ministry will collaborate with all sectors to develop a sustainable management strategy for the World Heritage site, balancing monument conservation with cultural tourism promotion to create economic value for local communities. This is Thailand's ninth World Heritage Site and notably, the first cultural heritage site designated in southern Thailand. The ministry and Fine Arts Department are preparing to celebrate the inscription of Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahaviharn as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Actors Call for Stricter Nightlife Safety Standards

Thai actors call for stricter safety inspections at nightlife venues following a deadly beer bar fire in Bangkok on July 12, citing inadequate emergency protocols and overcrowding as ongoing concerns.

Actors Call for Stricter Nightlife Safety Standards
25 Jul Khaosod

A fatal fire at a beer bar in the Ladphrao area on July 12 claimed multiple lives and affected many people. Actors Tu Bhopthon Suntaranyakij and Lukhuwa Pichiga Jittaputta, attending the Sky Castle Thailand World Premiere at SF World Cinema in Central World, shared their perspectives on the incident and called for serious intervention by authorities.

The entertainment and music industries have expressed concern about the fire. Tu said: "First, I want to express condolences to the families of those affected. This is something that should never happen. I believe the key issue to address is stricter inspection of all venues—restaurants, pubs, hotels, and others. While there are laws in place that businesses must follow, there also needs to be a monitoring component to ensure they comply. I've played at many venues where I felt unsafe for myself and the audience. If an emergency occurred, we wouldn't be able to evacuate in time. Not all venues have proper knowledge of safety protocols. It should start with educating business owners before they open, not shutting them down after the fact. Clear regulations must be communicated to operators."

Lukhuwa added: "Yes, every venue needs to be aware this can happen. They need to check sprinkler systems and other safety equipment. Fire drills should be mandatory. Business owners need to be more conscious of these responsibilities."

When asked if they had experienced similar incidents, Lukhuwa said: "Not yet, though there have been times when fights broke out at pubs and we had to evacuate. That was when people were drunk."

Tu said: "Each incident serves as a reminder. Every time I enter a venue, I check for emergency exits and capacity limits. Sometimes venues are overcrowded, which is inevitable. Trampling can happen in an emergency. We encounter this regularly because we perform at nightlife venues often, but fortunately, we haven't experienced a disaster yet."

When asked if the incident makes them hesitant to take future work, Tu replied: "I don't think people should view it that way. As performers and as members of the public, we can't avoid going out. We should simply be more aware and mindful of our surroundings. When we go to crowded venues, we should note where the exits are. It's about maintaining awareness."

Peace Scholar Proposes 10-Point Strategy After Rangers Killed

A peace scholar proposed a 10-point strategy to end southern Thailand's cycle of violence after five rangers were killed in a border attack, emphasizing swift decision-making and data-driven prevention over reactive responses.

Peace Scholar Proposes 10-Point Strategy After Rangers Killed
25 Jul Khaosod

On July 25, Napdol Kanika, a lecturer in peace innovation at Siam Technology College, responded to the deaths of five rangers killed in an attack in Thailand's southern border provinces by calling for national reflection. He stressed that the loss extends beyond the families of the deceased to all Thai citizens, and the incident should serve as a turning point for the country to review how to end the cycle of unrest through effective and sustainable strategies.

Napdol invoked Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul's statement "I order it today, it must be finished yesterday" as emblematic of strategic thinking in protecting civilian and official lives. In security matters, he argued, every day of delay can mean irretrievable loss of life. The statement reflects the principle that prevention must outpace events and decisions must be swift enough to save lives.

Napdol proposed ten strategic principles to end internal conflict: unity without division; avoiding emotion-driven strategy; using data science for decision-making; intelligence before force; technology superior to perpetrators; proactive risk management rather than reactive problem-solving; targeting the right individuals; dismantling networks; protecting the innocent and preserving state legitimacy; and winning hearts and minds as the most sustainable victory.

He stressed that in security work, time is critical to human life. Poor intelligence, slow analysis, and delayed coordination can result in irreversible losses. He urged all sectors to shift from reactive responses to predictive prevention using data, technology, analysis, and effective collaboration. Success against violence, he concluded, depends not on security forces alone but on nationwide civilian cooperation, including community volunteers and neighborhood watch groups, all working together to reject violence and uphold the rule of law.

Police from the Technology Crime Suppression Division have unmasked a prominent dark web influencer operating under the name "Jao Nai" on X, who lured a 17-year-old into producing explicit videos for sale in private online groups and OnlyFans, charging subscribers for access. The suspect, 25-year-old Thanyakorn (surname withheld), was arrested on July 25, 2025, at a condominium in the Ramkhamhaeng area of Bangkok's Prawet District following investigation into suspicious activity on his X account, which had amassed 246,646 followers.

Investigators discovered the suspect employed a "secret group marketing" strategy, posting short explicit videos to attract interest and directing followers to join locked accounts and his OnlyFans page, where subscribers paid to access full content. Once payment was verified, users were added to the private groups. The investigation revealed the suspect had specifically recruited a 17-year-old girl to film explicit videos for distribution and profit, constituting human trafficking and child sexual abuse material production.

Officers obtained arrest and search warrants from the Phra Khanong Criminal Court and raided the condominium, seizing two mobile phones and lighting equipment used to produce high-quality explicit content for sale. Examination of the devices revealed numerous explicit images and videos, along with evidence of membership fee transfers. The suspect operated a structured membership system through locked X accounts and OnlyFans, generating hundreds of thousands of baht in revenue from the illegal enterprise.

CHONBURI — Four people were rescued after a speedboat sank in rough seas near Koh Khram off Sattahip district on Friday evening.

The incident occurred at around 17:30 on 24 July, approximately 12 nautical miles from the coast. Initial reports said strong winds and waves caused the vessel to founder, leaving it unable to continue its journey.

The four people on board were two foreign men and two Thai women.

Pattaya Marine Rescue Unit 501 and water rescue personnel from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation responded to the incident and safely pulled all four from the water. No serious injuries were initially reported.

After the rescue, foundation personnel towed the damaged speedboat to shore in the Bang Saray area for inspection.

However, the Pattaya rescue boat involved in the operation was initially unable to return to shore because of continuing rough conditions. The crew took shelter behind an island while waiting for the weather to improve.

Initial reports placed sea conditions at level three to four. Authorities said they would continue monitoring the situation and provide further updates.

National Science Museum Opens New Butterfly Garden With Nature Trail
25 Jul Khaosod

On July 25, the National Science Museum (NSM) unveiled a new nature learning pathway called "Miracle of Thailand Ecosystem" and a butterfly garden called "Thai Butterfly Territory" to create real-world learning spaces. The initiative offers youth, families, and the public the opportunity to experience Thailand's ecosystems firsthand through educational activities that link scientific knowledge to the environment while fostering conservation awareness and sustainable biodiversity practices. The opening ceremony was presided over by Suvrong Wongsiree, acting director of NSM, alongside deputy directors Dr. Kannika Chen and Siriprat Semsuweedee, with strong attendance from management, staff, and interested members of the public.

Suvrong noted that the world currently faces challenges from biodiversity loss and climate change, and providing people with direct nature-based learning experiences is an important mission for NSM in cultivating environmental knowledge, understanding, and conservation awareness. The museum aims to develop learning resources that allow people to experience authentic nature, as direct experience creates deeper understanding and inspires a love and commitment to the natural world that motivates people of all ages to care for natural resources for future generations.

The "Miracle of Thailand Ecosystem" nature trail was designed as a living learning space, connecting knowledge through nine learning stations that tell the story of Thai ecosystems—from relationships between plants, animals, and insects to wetlands, mangrove forests, and the role of living things in maintaining nature's balance. Visitors can learn through observation, exploration, and close interaction with the natural environment.

Another major highlight is the "Thai Butterfly Territory" garden, which features live Thai butterfly displays. The area includes an outdoor butterfly garden, butterfly house, and outdoor exhibition that convey knowledge about butterfly life cycles, diversity, adaptation, and their ecological role. The garden showcases at least 30 species of Thai butterflies and host plants, including the Leopard Lacewing, Lemon Emigrant, Lime Butterfly, and Plain Tiger, allowing visitors to experience nature's beauty while learning about Thai butterflies up close. The displays also present the science behind butterfly beauty, such as camouflage strategies, toxin accumulation for defense, and survival adaptations, inspiring people of all ages to appreciate biodiversity and participate in sustainable conservation of natural resources.
